Evisu

The company is named after 'Evis', 'Evisu' or 'Ebisu' the buddhist god of money. The Meridiana fleet consists of the following aircraft (at January 2006):. The Evisu logo (which was created by Yamane) is a stylized gull, and is still hand-painted onto some styles of jean, as it was by Yamane when the company was first founded. However, later in the month an Italian court suspended the public service obligation contract with Meridiana until further notice. The brand was originally called Evis, but was changed to Evisu in 1991. In December 2004 it was reported that Meridiana had won the tender for all public service obligation routes from and to Sardinia. Sometimes referred to as "Rolls Royce of Jeans", the brand was founded in 1988 in Osaka, Japan by Hidehiko Yamane. In January 2004 it was reported that Meridiana were planning to replace its McDonnell Douglas MD-82 fleet by 17 Airbus A320-200s.

The airline was founded as Alisarda on March 29, 1963 by the Aga Khan to promote tourism to Sardinia. .
