3 Doors Down

(Redirected from Three Doors Down)

3 Doors Down is an American alternative rock band, they were formed in 1997. They signed to Universal Records in 2000 for their first record, The Better Life. They received international attention with the release of their song; "Kryptonite". The single crossed over several formats, peaking at #1 on rock, alternative and pop radio. The album went on to sell over 5 million copies, thanks to the longest running #1 single on rock radio in Billboard's chart history, "Loser" (21 weeks at #1), "Duck & Run" (a #1 rock smash) and another Top 40 crossover smash "Be Like That", which peaked at #25 on the Hot 100.

While the band experienced a lot of exposure and fame for the singles on their first album, the followup proved to be just as successful. In 2002, "Away from the Sun" was released with the hit single "When I'm Gone". Featuring a video in tribute to American troops, the single's popularity enabled the hit to remain on the charts for almost a year, again garnering multiple format airplay from rock to pop to alternative radio. It also became their second biggest hit to date on rock radio, spending 17 weeks on top of the chart (second only to the band's own "Loser"). "Here Without You" became another multi-format smash while singles "The Road I'm On" and "Away From The Sun" were minor hits. The album went on to sell over 3 million copies.

3 Doors Down released their third studio album on February 8, 2005. The first single "Let Me Go" is already gaining airplay on rock and alternative formats.

The first single "Let Me Go" is already gaining airplay on rock and alternative formats. The singer expresses his (vain, in hindsight) hope to be able to look forward again to the annual Presidents' Day in February. 3 Doors Down released their third studio album on February 8, 2005. On Wainwright's homepage, the song Presidents' Day (http://lwiii.com/LWPresidentsDay_s192.mp3), created in early 2004, is available for free download. The album went on to sell over 3 million copies. (Rufus was the subject of another of Loudon's more famous songs, the breastfeeding ode "Rufus is a Tit Man", and Martha has been greeted with the gentle song "Five Years Old" on her fifth birthday.). "Here Without You" became another multi-format smash while singles "The Road I'm On" and "Away From The Sun" were minor hits. Wainwright's son Rufus Wainwright and daughter Martha Wainwright, through his onetime marriage to Canadian singer/songwriter Kate McGarrigle, are both singer/songwriters as well.

It also became their second biggest hit to date on rock radio, spending 17 weeks on top of the chart (second only to the band's own "Loser"). His father, Loudon Wainwright II, was a well-known writer for Life magazine. Featuring a video in tribute to American troops, the single's popularity enabled the hit to remain on the charts for almost a year, again garnering multiple format airplay from rock to pop to alternative radio. He was one of many young folksingers tagged as the "new Dylan" in the early 1970s. In 2002, "Away from the Sun" was released with the hit single "When I'm Gone". Wainwright has claimed that, like many of his contemporaries, he was inspired musically by seeing Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival in 1962. While the band experienced a lot of exposure and fame for the singles on their first album, the followup proved to be just as successful. Using a witty, self-mocking style and unusual, high-pitched voice, Wainwright has made a number of albums, two of which were nominated for Grammy awards.

He is best known to the general public for a 1972 novelty song hit "Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road)", and for playing "the Singing Surgeon" on three episodes of the American television show M*A*S*H in 1975, but his musical reputation is much deeper. The single crossed over several formats, peaking at #1 on rock, alternative and pop radio.
