Her first musical recording "Borinqueña" will out in the market this year. Backus is an aspiring actor, who has appeared on the television show Will & Grace, but the couple met when he took her order at the restaurant where he was working as a waiter. She is going to play the principal part. On June 11, 2004 she married Christopher Backus in a private ceremony; the marriage did not become public knowledge for more than two weeks. She is also in the process of composing a musical about a singer/dancer/actress who leaves Puerto Rico to hit the big time in New York. Sorvino dated Quentin Tarantino for several years and more recently French actor Olivier Martinez. Roselyn Sanchez has already participated in 16 movies and will be cast in the role of "Maria" in the Hollywood production "Edison", which will be out in the year 2005. Since then she has had offers for co-leading and supporting roles, some of them having become box-office hits, such as Romy and Michele's High School Reunion opposite Lisa Kudrow, and At First Sight with Val Kilmer.

In 2003, she played the role of "Lorena" in the movie "Chasing Papi" starring alongside Jaci Velasquez and Sofia Vergara. The breakthrough role in Sorvino's early career was her portrayal of a squeaky-voiced, foul-mouthed prostitute in Woody Allen's 1995 movie Mighty Aphrodite, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2001, Roselyn was cast as "Isabella Molina", a secret customs agent who was Jackie Chan's love interest in the movie Rush Hour 2. Reviews of her first film performance were positive, which opened her doors for her following parts. She played this character from 1996 to 1997. Soon she was promoted to casting director and to assistant producer, and was finally offered the lead role in the movie. She became the first hispanic to play a Latina character, in its' 50 year history, when she played the role of "Pilar Domingo". When the 1993 picture Amongst Friends entered pre-production, she was hired as third assistant director.

Roselyn returned to New York and landed her first English speaking role in the CBS soap opera, "As The World Turns". One of her jobs was as production assistant in a film company. In Puerto Rico, she gained public attention as a dancer and co-host of the island's #1 variety show "Que Vacilon". Like so many other young actors, she worked at several jobs, waiting for an opportunity in show business. In 1993, Roselyn won the Miss Puerto Rico Petite contest and in 1994 she won the international title of Miss America Petite. After graduating from college, she spent three years in New York trying to make a name for herself as an actress. She landed a small part as an island girl in the movie "Captain Ron", starring Martin Short and Kurt Russell. She also speaks French.

In 1992, she made her movie debut. She is also a political activist affiliated with Amnesty International. She spent a year abroad in China, and speaks Mandarin Chinese. In 1991, at the age of 21, Roselyn moved to New York City, where she took classes in dancing, acting and singing. Her thesis was on anti-African sentiment in China (see Nanjing Anti-African protests). However, that was not her calling and after three years she called it quits. She was at Harvard University, where she graduated "summa cum laude" in East Asian Studies. Roselyn enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico, where she was to study marketing, like her father and brothers before her. Nevertheless, Sorvino acted in theater productions while in high school and later in university.

She would put on shows for her family. She was raised in New Jersey and dedicated most of her childhood to academic studies rather than preparing for an acting career, as her father did not want his three children to become young movie stars. At a young age she showed an interest in dancing and acting. Sorvino was born in Tenafly, New Jersey, and is the daughter of veteran actor Paul Sorvino (whose credits include Goodfellas, Oliver Stone's Nixon, and TV's Law & Order). She received her pirmary education in San Juan. Mira Sorvino (born September 28, 1967) is an Oscar-winning American actress, who has appeared in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion,At First Sight, Blue in the Face, Summer of Sam and Mighty Aphrodite.
