During the 1960s and until 1970 the actress returned to live and work in Europe, mainly Italy. On September 10, 1971 she died of an accidental overdose of barbiturate in Beverly Hills, California. Well known for her romance with James Dean, the actress married twice. Her first marriage was to Damone and the second to Italian composer Armando Trovajoli. She had one son in each union.
