However, his best known role to date is as Dr. Zadora gained notoriety when she and her husband bought and demolished the Hollywood landmark mansion Pickfair in 1988. It was his role as 'Goose' alongside Tom Cruise in the film Top Gun that brought his first widespread public acknowledgement and a terminally ill patient in Hawks alongside with Timothy Dalton. Her cover version of the Shirley Ellis hit, "The Clapping Song", reached the US Top 40 in 1983, and she had a minor hit with a duet with Jermaine Jackson titled "When The Rain Begins To Fall" in 1984. His first starring role was in the 1984 film, Revenge of the Nerds.

In 1982 she received a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. He studied acting at University of Southern California, but dropped out to begin actually taking roles and working. She has attained some success as a singer, and has had several hit singles throughout the world. Edwards was the youngest of 5 children, and was encouraged by his parents to follow his interest in acting. Her film career has been a series of lows, with no hit films, and with further Golden Raspberries to her credit, including the "Worst New Star of the Decade" award in the 1989 Golden Raspberry Awards. He has been married to Jeanine Lobell since 1994, and they have had four children. She won a Golden Globe Award as 1982's "Most Promising New Star", but also won "Worst New Star" in the 1982 Golden Raspberry Awards. He reportedly earned $35,000,000 for three of his eight seasons on ER.
