Michael Garrett Shanks (born December 15, 1970 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian actor who achieved fame for his role as Dr. Daniel Jackson on the television series Stargate SG-1.

After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a B.A. in Fine Arts in 1994 Shanks played in several stage productions. He made guest appearances on tv series like The Highlander, University Hospital, and The Outer Limits. He also played in the tv movie A Family Divided and Call of the Wild before accepting his role in Stargate SG-1.

Shanks played Daniel Jackson throughout the first five seasons of the series before leaving the show. He made several guest appearances throughout the sixth season and returned for the seventh and eight seasons.

He recently starred in the German Science Fiction Movie Sumuru as the astronaut Adam Wade.

On 2 August 2003, Shanks married fellow actor Lexa Doig, and on 13 September 2004, they welcomed a daughter, Mia Tabitha. This is the second child for Shanks, his first, Tatiana, with model Vaitiare Bandera, was born in 1998.
