Lola Flores

Shortly after her passing, her distraught 34-year-old son died of a drug overdose and was interred near her. She was nominated for an Emmy in 1955 for her performance as a blind girl in General Electric Theater's Shadow On The Heart.. Lola Flores died of cancer in 1995 and was interred in the Cementerio de la Almudena in Madrid. She left the movies in 1956 for the stage and fulfilled her dream of being in opera. She had three children: Dolores (singer and actress Lolita Flores); rock musician, singer and actor Antonio Flores and singer and actress Rosario Flores. She also played Magnolia in the 1951 version of Show Boat. In 1958, she married Antonio González el Pescaílla, a guitarist. Some consider her role as Lili Vanessi in Kiss Me, Kate as her best.

She received her the most success appearing in folklore shows with Manolo Caracol, who was her artistic partner until 1951. She started out with dreams of being in opera, but MGM scooped her up to be in films. Born María de los Dolores Flores Ruiz', at a very young age, Lola Flores becomes a famous dancer and singer of Andalusian folklore, enjoying a long history of filmography beginning in 1939 and ending in 1987. The petite soprano was one of MGM Studios' top sopranos of the 1940s & 1950s. Lola Flores, born February 21, 1923 in Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz, Spain - died May 16, 1995, was a singer, dancer, and actress. She has one daughter. She married twice, first to actor John Shelton, second to actor/singer Johnnie Johnston.
