The band's first performance was on May 11th 1991, at a private rooftop party, held by Lydia Condor at the South Street Warehouse in downtown Charlottesville. Although he shows no skill as far as traditional rapping goes, often literally having no words that rhyme nor a discernable rhyme sceme, he continues to sell records. Matthews formed The Dave Matthews Band in early 1991 with Boyd Tinsley, Leroi Moore, Carter Beauford and Stefan Lessard while he was working as a bartender at Miller's in Charlottesville.

Lil Wayne, however, performed gangsta rap in the strictest sense since an early age. After writing his first few songs, including "The Song that Jane Likes" and "Recently", Matthews who had originally envisioned someone else singing his songs, began to consider starting his own band. Even more noteworthy, most young rappers of teenage years perform bubble gum rap until at least their 20's. It was in 1990 that he hatched the idea to form his own band. Lil Wayne is also noted as being the youngest of the Hot Boys, 16 at the time of their debut. His first professional musical performance was at a modern dance performance by the Miki Liszt Dance Company, singing "Sensitive Feelings," composed by John D'earth and Dawn Thompson. In 2004 he has released his latest solo album titled " The Carter". Though he also logged time back in South Africa and in Amsterdam, it was in Charlottesville where Matthews—who took piano lessons as a child before picking up the guitar at age nine—became part of the local music community.

His second album was 2000's Lights Out, followed by 500 Degreez in 2002. The key move for Dave Matthews was when he relocated in 1986 to Charlottesville, Virginia, where his parents had lived before he was born. The title track was a huge hit. The family moved back to South Africa in 1980, where Matthews went to a few different schools. His debut solo album was, Tha Block Is Hot was released in 1999. Then, in the early 1970s, he moved to Cambridge, England, before returning to New York—where his father died in 1977. Lil Wayne was one of the Hot Boys, an American rap group associated with Cash Money Records. At the age of two, Matthews and his family immigrated to Westchester County, New York, where his father, a physicist, went to work for IBM.
