John GavinBorn April 8, 1928, as John Anthony Golenor, John Gavin is an American movie actor and former US Ambassador to Mexico. His most famous movie roles were in Psycho in 1960 and Spartacus in 1961. He was signed on for the role of James Bond after George Lazenby left the role, but he never played Bond in a movie. Born April 8, 1928, as John Anthony Golenor, John Gavin is an American movie actor and former US Ambassador to Mexico. In 1983, he became a star, playing astronaut John Glenn in The Right Stuff. In Knightriders he played a motorcycle stunt rider in a role modeled after that of King Arthur. Harris's first important film role was in Borderline with Charles Bronson, where he played a killer. After several successful roles in the local theater, he moved to Los Angeles, California, and enrolled at the California Institute of the Arts. He enrolled at the University of Oklahoma to study drama. Two years later his family moved to Oklahoma and he followed after having discovered his interest in acting in various theater plays. He was a star athlete in high school and won a sports scholarship to Columbia University. He was born Edward Allen Harris in Tenafly, New Jersey, as the son of a singer.
