Joe Flanigan

Joe Flanigan is a prolific television actor who has long-running guest roles on numerous television series, including Profiler, First Monday, Sisters and The Force.

Joe Flanigan grew up on a small ranch near Reno, Nevada in the United States. At the age of 14 he attended a boarding school in Ojai, California where he appeared in the school's production of A Streetcar Named Desire. He later attended the University of Colorado where he apppeared in Coriolanus and studied in Paris. After graduation he pursued a writing career, working briefly for several New York City magazines. On the advice of some of his friends he studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting as a career.

Flanigan is married to painter Katherine Flanigan. He currently leads the military force attached to the Atlantis Expedition as Major John Sheppard on Stargate Atlantis.

He currently leads the military force attached to the Atlantis Expedition as Major John Sheppard on Stargate Atlantis. He is sometimes credited as 'David Stiers', 'David Odgen Stires' and 'David Ogden Steers'. Flanigan is married to painter Katherine Flanigan. As of 2004, he is a regular in the television series The Dead Zone. On the advice of some of his friends he studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting as a career. He also guest starred in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Half a Life" and the Matlock episode "The Ambassador". After graduation he pursued a writing career, working briefly for several New York City magazines. In 2001, he was the voice of Kamaji in the English-language version of Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away.

He later attended the University of Colorado where he apppeared in Coriolanus and studied in Paris. He played a Congressman in the North and South miniseries along with Patrick Swayze.
