Joe Flanigan

He currently leads the military force attached to the Atlantis Expedition as Major John Sheppard on Stargate Atlantis. He got a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor for his role in The Snapper. Flanigan is married to painter Katherine Flanigan. He also guest starred on shows like Remington Steele and Moonlighting before embarking on a successful film career. On the advice of some of his friends he studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting as a career. His first television appearance was in Z Cars on BBC television in 1978. After graduation he pursued a writing career, working briefly for several New York City magazines. He started studying acting when he was 14 years of age and entered the Abbey Theatre school of Acting after secondary school. He became a member of the Irish National Theatre and after that spent eight years in England, touring with several theatre companies.

He later attended the University of Colorado where he apppeared in Coriolanus and studied in Paris. Colm Meaney (born May 30, 1953 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish-born actor, mostly known for his role as Miles O'Brien in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
