She is married to actor Ron Leibman. In 2004, she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Cold Mountain. As of 2004, she now stars as the socialite mother Lucille Bluth in FOX's comedic series Arrested Development. She has since starred and received Academy Award nominations for her roles in Bridget Jones's Diary and Chicago. These films were all made in the sixties and since then Jessica has done extensive television work. Renee auditioned and won the lead. She is best known for her roles in Play Misty for Me, in which she played a psychotic stalker, Lilith, Grand Prix, The Group, Bye Bye Braverman, and Number One. While on the set of Chainsaw, she heard about the film Love and a .45, which was in the midst of casting for actors.

After high school, she went to the University of Texas at Austin to major in English. She was a cheerleader, gymnast, and participated in the drama club. Renee, the daughter of a Swiss father and a Norwegian mother, graduated from Katy High School in Katy, a suburb of Houston in 1987.
