Jennifer LopezJennifer Lynn López (born July 24, 1969) is a well-known American actress, Latin Pop singer, fashion designer, and dancer. She is married to singer Marc Anthony. She is also commonly known as J-Lo or J.Lo. Early YearsLopez as a childLopez was born in the Bronx, New York to Puerto Rican parents Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez. She has two sisters, Lynda and Leslie. Though Lopez's parents were born in the same Puerto Rican town, they did not meet until they both had moved to Castle Hill. They were strict with their girls and instilled a strong work ethic in them — no one in the family was allowed to miss a day of school, work, or church (the family was devoutly Roman Catholic). "Our parents had a strong work ethic — there wasn't really any other way," Lynda Lopez told Rolling Stone. Lopez's parents also stressed assimilation — the need to speak English, to fit into the mainstream, to succeed. Because her parents were strict, Lopez spent much of what she called "the boyfriend years" in Rolling Stone sneaking around to meet up with first-love David Cruz, whom she remained with from the time she was 16 until she was 25."I was always climbing out windows, jumping off roofs, and he was sneaking up," she said. "It was crazy." She spent her entire academic career in Catholic school, and admits she still prays regularly. She was a driven student and natural athlete in gymnastics, softball, and tennis. She went out for the track team, though she had no experience. Her father feared that, new to the sport, she would be outclassed, but Lopez rose to the challenge and ended up competing nationally. "Basically, anything she wants to do, she'll be as successful as you can at it," sister Lynda Lopez told Rolling Stone. "That's the kind of person she is." She met the famous Jorge "Chicken Wings" Lopez from Jersey City. Jennifer Lopez financed singing and dancing lessons from the age of 16. After she dropped out of high school, Lopez pursued her talent for dance. She split her time between her job at a law office, taking dance classes, and dancing in Manhattan clubs at night. Though she did not, and still does not, drink alcohol, her parents disapproved of her working nights so far from home and feared she was associating with a potentially dangerous crowd. She moved out of the house in protest of her controlling parents and was able to shack up with her dance teacher and literally lived on the floor of the dance studio for many years until she could pay rent with occasional work as a dancer. After month's and month's of auditioning for dance gig's, she got her first spot and started out in television as a video girl for rap artist MC Hammer, also a guest spot on the American Music Awards, and was then introduced to the world as a "fly girl" dancer on the television comedy program In Living Color in 1990 only after being rejected twice. She then left the show after the second season due to confliction between she and another dancer. Lopez's stability during that time parlayed into the earliest successes of her career. She got her big break playing a small role in a short-lived television program South Central. She later starred shortly in Second Chances and Hotel Malibu. She got more television acting parts in the made-for-TV movie Nurses on the Line: The Crash of Flight 7. She danced for Janet Jackson on tour and in Jackson's video for the popular song "That's the Way Loves Goes" in 1995. Lopez broke onto the big screen in 1995, in the drama My Family/Mi Familia and opposite Wesley Snipes in the action film Money Train. She appeared in Francis Ford Coppola's 1996 comedy Jack, and the 1997 thriller Blood and Wine. After a nationwide search of tens of thousands of women, Jennifer was chosen to play the lead role in the film Selena. In 1998, the Golden Globes organization nominated her for the "Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy" for her role in Selena. Music1st Album "On The 6"Lopez's debut album, On the 6, a reference to the subway line she used to take growing up in Castle Hill, was released on June 1, 1999 and reached the top ten of the Billboard 200. The album featured the multi-week #1 lead single, "If You Had My Love", as well as the top ten hit "Waiting for Tonight". It also contained the Spanish language, Latin-flavored duet "No me Ames" with Marc Anthony, which was an international DAN hit, though the song was never released as a single in the US. Despite this, the video received moderate airplay on the US music channels VH1 and The Box as a novelty. The album also spawned another international hit in "Feelin' So Good", a hip-hop track which contained guest raps by Big Pun and Fat Joe; it failed to make the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100. "Let's Get Loud" was also released as a single, and became a minor dance hit. Her sophomore effort, J. Lo, was released in January 2001 and debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. The lead single, "Love Don't Cost a Thing" was her first UK number one single, and, along with its follow-up, "Play" (which was written by rising teen star, Christina Milian) it became a top five hit during the year the album was released. The album's next two singles, "I'm Real" and "Ain't it Funny", ended up becoming her biggest ever hits, with both spending several weeks at #1. However, to capitalize on this, Lopez asked Murder Inc. to remix both songs, completely changing the lyrics and melodies and adding raps from Ja Rule in both songs, and from Caddillac Tah to "Ain't it Funny (Remix)". The "I'm Real" and "Ain't It Funny" remixes were two of the biggest pop and rap hits in late 2001 and early 2002, respectively, and their more hip-hop sound gave J. Lo street credibility and brought her music to a whole new group of fans. She re-released the CD on her 32nd birthday, July 24, 2001, including Ja Rule's remixed version of "I'm Real". The remix of "I'm Real" sparked controversy when it contained a sample originally used for Mariah Carey's single 'Loverboy'. Rumors suggest this was Tommy Motolla's doing, Carey's ex-husband. Following the successes of the remix, Lopez decided to devote an entire album to the effort; the result, J to tha L-O: The Remixes, appeared on February 5, 2002. This album, too, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, marking the first remix album in history to debut (or even reach) #1 on the chart. This time around, she got 50 Cent and Nas to write rhymes for two remixes of her next single, "I'm Gonna Be Alright", which ended up becoming another top ten hit. The album also included rarer dance and hip-hop remixes of her past singles, and a new song, a ballad called "Alive", which was included in Lopez's movie Enough. On November 26, 2002, Lopez released her fourth studio album, This Is Me... Then, which reached #2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned two very popular singles; the top 5 "Jenny from the Block", (sampling the track from the song "Watch Out Now" by the Beatnuts, and including raps from Jadakiss and Styles P and the multi-week #1 "All I Have" duet with LL Cool J. Another single, "I'm Glad", was also released, but only managed to go top forty, a rather low result considering Lopez's usual chart success. Another song from the album was a cover of Carly Simon's "You Belong to Me." In 2004, Lopez once again participated in duets with Marc Anthony, this time on his albums Amar Sin Mentiras and Valio La Pena. 5th Album "Rebirth"After a considerable amount of time away from the music scene, Lopez finally released her fifth studio album, Rebirth, on March 1, 2005. Debuting at #2 on the Billboard 200 to initially decent sales success, the album quickly fell off the charts and remains to be Lopez's biggest commercial (not to mention critical) failure/flop yet. Despite this, the album has so-far spawned one hit in "Get Right", which reached the top twenty; however, it was greatly shunned by critics as an almost complete rip-off of Usher's unreleased song Ride. Even so, "Get Right" was a huge hit in the UK, becoming her second #1 single there. The second single, "Hold You Down," which featured Fat Joe, only barely made it into the top 75 in the US, peaking at #64 but the track managed a peak of #6 in the UK. In late 2006, Jennifer Lopez is to release her 6th studio album and first Spanish Album titled "Como Ama Una Mujer", and in the Fall she is to release her sixth studio album, an English album. FashionLopez owns a clothing line called "JLO by Jennifer Lopez", whose brand has been licensed for a term by Warnaco Group [1]. Her line is the most successful of any artists' in history and includes many different types of clothing for young women, including jeans, tees, coats, belts, purses, sexy lingere and many other products. Furthermore, she is planning to launch a jewelry line, hats, gloves and a scarves line. She also has a perfume line out called "Glow", and she was in question before, because the name came from another patented perfume. In October 2003, Lopez introduced a perfume called "Still". During November of the same year, she launched a new clothing line called "Sweetface". Lopez's frequent use of fur in her clothing lines and personal wardrobe has brought the scorn of people concerned with animal rights. More than one hundred protestors from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals held a demonstration at the Los Angeles premiere of Monster-in-Law. For her part, Lopez told a radio DJ she was open to being educated on the topic-and the DJ promptly told her animals are routinely skinned alive to make trendy furs. That has not discouraged her in the least bit from wearing and marketing clothing made from fur She has also done a photoshoot to represent the Louis Vuitton Winter 2003 campaign, in which the pictures would be seen all over the world through TV commercials, billboards, ads, newspapers, magazines and more. Other merchandise includes a clothing and cologne line for men due for release sometime in 2006. J.Lo has now said that she is going to start producing clothes for pets dogs, most of the customers will most likely be members of hollywood and their furry little friends. J.Lo Inc.Lopez owns a production company, Nuyorican Productions, in which she is expected to produce some of her upcoming movies. Some of the projects for the company include Carmen, Dirty Girls Social Club (featuring Jeffrey Wilkinson as Dirty Girl # 4) and The Hector Lavoe Project. This company was founded together with her former manager, Benny Medina, whom she filed a lawsuit against because of alleged fraud in July 2003. Currently, the company produces the television series South Beach for UPN. The company produced the commercially-successful movies The Cell, The Wedding Planner and Maid in Manhattan. These three movies put together made more than $350 million at the box office worldwide. RelationshipsLopez is notorious for her multiple relationships. Her first marriage, to waiter Ojani Noa, occured on February 22, 1997. He was later named the manager of Lopez's restaurant, Madre's. They divorced in January 1998. Her second marriage was to Chris Judd, her former backup dancer. She met Judd while filming the music video for her single "Love Don't Cost A Thing". The two were married on September 29, 2001 at a home in a Los Angeles suburb officiated by attorney Barry Hirsch. The marriage also ended in divorce in January 2003. From 1999 to 2001, she dated singer and producer Puff Daddy [real name: Sean Combs], breaking up after a shooting incident in a New York night club. Both were arrested in connection with a nightclub shooting in December 1999. Police found them with a stolen gun. The charges against Lopez were dropped, but the charges against Combs stayed. He was eventually tried and acquitted. Their breakup was announced on February 14, 2001. Lopez became engaged to Ben Affleck and confirmed this in October 2002, after Affleck gave her a reported $3.5 million ring. But the marriage planned for September 14, 2003 in Santa Barbara, California was called off a few days before the event. She had stated in interviews during her engagement to Affleck that, once married, she would go by the name Jennifer Affleck both privately and professionally. This never came to be as she and Affleck broke off their engagement and split for good in January 2004. Lopez married singer Marc Anthony in a secret wedding on June 5, 2004, less than a week after his divorce was finalized from former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres. All the guests were invited to a "afternoon party", and they were never told that they were going to a wedding. Years before they married (or even became a couple), she and Marc Anthony sang a song together called "No Me Ames" which appeared on her album "On the 6." Almost immediately after the wedding, rumors began swirling that the wedding was of the "shotgun" variety and that Lopez was pregnant. Claiming to be a devoted Roman Catholic, Lopez has said in the past that she would never have a baby without being married. Complicating the situation is Anthony's refusal to confirm his marriage to Lopez and the fact that his divorce took place in the Dominican Republic less than a week before his reported marriage to Lopez, making it potentially invalid in the United States. The couple has since confirmed their marriage, although Lopez refuses to elaborate publicly on her marriage to Anthony. Lopez has become a stepmother to Anthony's two sons, Cristian and Ryan, with Torres and also to his daughter, Arianna, from a previous relationship. Arianna starred in Lopez's music video for "Get Right". Her BehindLopez's buttocks, which are commonly described as attractively large and shapely, have frequently been the subject of comment and parody. The size of her backside was actually one of the components in helping her win the title role in the 1997 film Selena about real-life Texan singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who also was noted for having a shapely posterior. She won the title of Best Female Body in the U.K. magazine Celebrity Bodies poll in 2001; and also First Place in FHM magazine's 2000 and 2001 polls of Sexiest Women, with all of the polls citing her shapely rear as a reason. In a skit at the MTV Video Music Awards, Triumph, the Comic Insult Dog begged Lopez to let him sniff her rear end, claiming that it was the equivalent of scaling Mount Everest for a dog. On a Hollywood television gossip show in 2004, an interviewer asked her, "How do you feel about your butt?" She answered "I can't believe you're asking me a question like that." Upcoming Films:. 2003. [17]. 2002. NVIDIA ceased production of the Xbox's GPU in August of that year, which almost certainly marks the end of Xbox production and the quick release of the Xbox 360 featuring a new GPU from NVIDIA's rival ATI. 2001. Microsoft's next generation Xbox, the Xbox 360, was released on November 22, 2005. 2000. To avoid frustrating early adopters, they offered a bundle containing two games and one controller for free to any purchaser who could provide a sales receipt showing the original higher price. 1999. Microsoft countered with a £100 price drop (and its equivalent in the rest of Europe) some scant months after launch. 1998. With a price-dropped PlayStation 2 and a comparatively inexpensive GameCube as competition, many users were naturally reluctant to invest in the console. 1997. Obviously, ignoring the GBP-USD exchange rate in the way gives the impression of a 100% mark-up for Europe. 1995. As with many games consoles (for example, the PlayStation series), the Xbox was launched with a price in GBP equal to its US price in USD (in this case, $/£299), and this price then converted for the rest of Europe. On a Hollywood television gossip show in 2004, an interviewer asked her, "How do you feel about your butt?" She answered "I can't believe you're asking me a question like that.". Of note is the high European launch price. In a skit at the MTV Video Music Awards, Triumph, the Comic Insult Dog begged Lopez to let him sniff her rear end, claiming that it was the equivalent of scaling Mount Everest for a dog. Oceania. magazine Celebrity Bodies poll in 2001; and also First Place in FHM magazine's 2000 and 2001 polls of Sexiest Women, with all of the polls citing her shapely rear as a reason. Europe. The size of her backside was actually one of the components in helping her win the title role in the 1997 film Selena about real-life Texan singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who also was noted for having a shapely posterior. Recently, the firmware to the newer optical drives was edited to allow signed code to play. Lopez's buttocks, which are commonly described as attractively large and shapely, have frequently been the subject of comment and parody. Modding your Xbox in this manner will definitely void your warranty, since it requires you to disassemble the console. Arianna starred in Lopez's music video for "Get Right". There are now sites that offer to modify the software on your Xbox for free. Lopez has become a stepmother to Anthony's two sons, Cristian and Ryan, with Torres and also to his daughter, Arianna, from a previous relationship. Probably the most legal way of modding the Xbox is replacing the whole motherboard so that you can install Linux or any other operating system designed for PC without having to hack anything. The couple has since confirmed their marriage, although Lopez refuses to elaborate publicly on her marriage to Anthony. One such successful use of Live to discourage modding was when the hit game Halo 2 was released, and many owners of modded consoles found out that they were permanently banned from the Xbox Live service, but was retaliated with On-Off switchable Modchips (or add-ons) and XBOX Live friendly softmods from XBOX hackers community. Complicating the situation is Anthony's refusal to confirm his marriage to Lopez and the fact that his divorce took place in the Dominican Republic less than a week before his reported marriage to Lopez, making it potentially invalid in the United States. As of November 2004, Microsoft has been taking new actions for banning Xboxes with hard drive modifications from the Xbox Live service. Claiming to be a devoted Roman Catholic, Lopez has said in the past that she would never have a baby without being married. Also, most internal hardware modifications will render an Xbox unable to participate in Xbox Live, which has forced many modders to use a switch that turns on and off their modifications. Almost immediately after the wedding, rumors began swirling that the wedding was of the "shotgun" variety and that Lopez was pregnant. Modding an Xbox may require opening the Xbox case, and would certainly void the Xbox's warranty. Years before they married (or even became a couple), she and Marc Anthony sang a song together called "No Me Ames" which appeared on her album "On the 6.". A modded Xbox can even be configured into a computer running Linux, FreeBSD, or Microsoft Windows CE operating systems. All the guests were invited to a "afternoon party", and they were never told that they were going to a wedding. Beyond gaming, a modded Xbox can be used as a media center with the Xbox Media Center software (XBMC) allowing the playing of DVDs without the DVD dongle/remote and streaming of music and video files from the hard drive or from another computer over a network. Lopez married singer Marc Anthony in a secret wedding on June 5, 2004, less than a week after his divorce was finalized from former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres. This process does require a modded Xbox using one of the alternative dashboards, and is used by scrupulous users to eliminate load times or leave their games in storage, and by unscrupulous users to play illegally copied games. This never came to be as she and Affleck broke off their engagement and split for good in January 2004. This allows the user to spare game disks from scratching and allows for faster load times. She had stated in interviews during her engagement to Affleck that, once married, she would go by the name Jennifer Affleck both privately and professionally. Then Xbox games can be copied from the DVD to the hard disk with programs such as DVD2Xbox and PxHDDLoader, and then played directly from the hard drive. But the marriage planned for September 14, 2003 in Santa Barbara, California was called off a few days before the event. The original hard drive can be replaced with a larger one. Lopez became engaged to Ben Affleck and confirmed this in October 2002, after Affleck gave her a reported $3.5 million ring. This is especially attractive as the Xbox is designed to output to TVs, and high-quality controllers and arcade sticks are available for it. Their breakup was announced on February 14, 2001. This allows running an alternate dashboard such as UIX, Avalaunch, Evolution-X or UnleashX and in turn makes playing original (free) homebrew games or various older games through arcade and console game emulators possible. He was eventually tried and acquitted. Software modding is much less intrusive, and only involves running software exploits to trick the Xbox into running unsigned program code. The charges against Lopez were dropped, but the charges against Combs stayed. [15][16]. Police found them with a stolen gun. He was sentenced to 140 hours community service, ordered to pay £750 costs at a court in Caerphilly, Wales, and his computer equipment was confiscated. Both were arrested in connection with a nightclub shooting in December 1999. It is the first conviction since the Directive was enacted in October 2003 in the UK. From 1999 to 2001, she dated singer and producer Puff Daddy [real name: Sean Combs], breaking up after a shooting incident in a New York night club. (The Directive makes it illegal to circumvent copy protection systems on hardware including video game consoles). The marriage also ended in divorce in January 2003. This was the first conviction of its kind in the UK. The two were married on September 29, 2001 at a home in a Los Angeles suburb officiated by attorney Barry Hirsch. In July 2005, a 22 year old Cambridge University graduate was convicted under the EU Copyright Directive for modifying Xboxes and selling them with an upgraded 200 GB hard drive, which was pre-loaded with 80 games. She met Judd while filming the music video for her single "Love Don't Cost A Thing". Hardware modding can involve anything from simply replacing the console's green decorative "jewel" with a custom-designed one to opening up the case and installing a modchip. Her second marriage was to Chris Judd, her former backup dancer. The recent popularity of the Xbox has inspired efforts to circumvent the built-in hardware and software security mechanisms (sometimes in order to use the Xbox as a low cost web server), as well as to add customized design touches to the console's case (similar to PC case modding). They divorced in January 1998. The Xbox API is similar to DirectX version 8.1, but is non-updateable just like other console technologies. He was later named the manager of Lopez's restaurant, Madre's. Microsoft's set of low-level APIs for game development and multimedia purposes, DirectX, was used as a basis for the Xbox's hardware programming. Her first marriage, to waiter Ojani Noa, occured on February 22, 1997. This output selectivity is made possible by the Xbox's SCART-like AVIP port. Lopez is notorious for her multiple relationships. Numerous unofficial third-party cables and breakout boxes exist that provide combinations of outputs not found in these official video packages; however, with the exception of a few component-to-VGA transcoders and custom-built VGA boxes, the four official video packages represent all of the Xbox's possible outputs. These three movies put together made more than $350 million at the box office worldwide. Included with the Hello Kitty Crystal console was a matching Crystal Controller S and a copy of Hello Kitty Mission Rescue. The company produced the commercially-successful movies The Cell, The Wedding Planner and Maid in Manhattan. A limited production run of 550 units was sold at a retail price of S$99 (US$61), if you purchase selected Samsung LCD TVs during a promotion. Currently, the company produces the television series South Beach for UPN. The special edition console was translucent with a pink and orange Hello Kitty picture covering the X on top of the case. This company was founded together with her former manager, Benny Medina, whom she filed a lawsuit against because of alleged fraud in July 2003. The Hello Kitty Crystal Xbox was released with Sanrio in Singapore, to commemorate the release of Hello Kitty Mission Rescue on the Xbox. Some of the projects for the company include Carmen, Dirty Girls Social Club (featuring Jeffrey Wilkinson as Dirty Girl # 4) and The Hector Lavoe Project. Included with the neon green console was one of two games: Project Gotham Racing 2 or Amped 2. Lopez owns a production company, Nuyorican Productions, in which she is expected to produce some of her upcoming movies. Dew logo under the Xbox name. J.Lo has now said that she is going to start producing clothes for pets dogs, most of the customers will most likely be members of hollywood and their furry little friends. The Mountain Dew Limited Edition Xbox was neon-green colored and had a special jewel atop the Xbox that had the words "Limited Edition" and the Mt. Other merchandise includes a clothing and cologne line for men due for release sometime in 2006. Production numbers are unknown. She has also done a photoshoot to represent the Louis Vuitton Winter 2003 campaign, in which the pictures would be seen all over the world through TV commercials, billboards, ads, newspapers, magazines and more. The sweepstakes spanned 5 months – from April to August – in 2004. That has not discouraged her in the least bit from wearing and marketing clothing made from fur. The Mountain Dew Limited Edition Xbox was only available through a Mountain Dew sweepstakes requiring loyal Dew-drinking Xbox fans to amass 550 points in order to "buy" the Limited Edition Xbox. For her part, Lopez told a radio DJ she was open to being educated on the topic-and the DJ promptly told her animals are routinely skinned alive to make trendy furs. Included with the Ice Blue console was a matching Controller S, and a copy of Halo 2. More than one hundred protestors from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals held a demonstration at the Los Angeles premiere of Monster-in-Law. The console was translucent blue and retailed for approximately $249. Lopez's frequent use of fur in her clothing lines and personal wardrobe has brought the scorn of people concerned with animal rights. On March 18, 2005, an Ice Blue Halo 2 Limited Edition Xbox was released in Canada and Asia. During November of the same year, she launched a new clothing line called "Sweetface". The original retail price was ¥22'800 yen ($215), and included the translucent blue console with a matching Controller S, a DVD Playback Kit, an Xbox Live Starter Kit with a free one-year membership, a copy of Dead or Alive Online, and a five-foot-long Kasumi body pillow. In October 2003, Lopez introduced a perfume called "Still". The translucent blue case was based on the costume of Dead or Alive's main character, Kasumi, and had "Dead or Alive Online" written in white lettering in the lower left corner of the top of the case. She also has a perfume line out called "Glow", and she was in question before, because the name came from another patented perfume. The system had a limited manufacturing run of 5,000 units, and was released simultaneously with Tecmo's fighting game, Dead or Alive Online. Furthermore, she is planning to launch a jewelry line, hats, gloves and a scarves line. On March 25, 2004, a Kasumi-chan Blue Xbox console was released in Japan. Her line is the most successful of any artists' in history and includes many different types of clothing for young women, including jeans, tees, coats, belts, purses, sexy lingere and many other products. 200,000 of these Xboxes were produced. Lopez owns a clothing line called "JLO by Jennifer Lopez", whose brand has been licensed for a term by Warnaco Group [1]. The version of Halo that came with this bundle was identical to other versions of Halo, with the exception of a "NOT FOR RESALE" notice placed on the front of the game case. In late 2006, Jennifer Lopez is to release her 6th studio album and first Spanish Album titled "Como Ama Una Mujer", and in the Fall she is to release her sixth studio album, an English album. The console case featured the Halo logo and the words "Special Edition"; the controller had a jewel that had the Halo logo in place of the normal Xbox logo. The second single, "Hold You Down," which featured Fat Joe, only barely made it into the top 75 in the US, peaking at #64 but the track managed a peak of #6 in the UK. This version was translucent green and came with a copy of Halo: Combat Evolved and a matching translucent green Controller S. Even so, "Get Right" was a huge hit in the UK, becoming her second #1 single there. On March 14, 2004, Microsoft released a special version of the Xbox in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Despite this, the album has so-far spawned one hit in "Get Right", which reached the top twenty; however, it was greatly shunned by critics as an almost complete rip-off of Usher's unreleased song Ride. A Crystal Controller S was also availible separately. Debuting at #2 on the Billboard 200 to initially decent sales success, the album quickly fell off the charts and remains to be Lopez's biggest commercial (not to mention critical) failure/flop yet. The Crystal console was re-released on October 8, 2004 in a new bundle (but with only one controller) at the normal Xbox price of €149/£99. After a considerable amount of time away from the music scene, Lopez finally released her fifth studio album, Rebirth, on March 1, 2005. It is unknown how many Crystal Limited Editions were produced, however; later bundles were released pairing a re-released Crystal Xbox with different Xbox games and Xbox Live subscriptions. In 2004, Lopez once again participated in duets with Marc Anthony, this time on his albums Amar Sin Mentiras and Valio La Pena. With a price tag of €199/£139, the Crystal Limited Edition came with a transparent console and two matching Crystal Controller S. Another song from the album was a cover of Carly Simon's "You Belong to Me.". On March 14, 2004, the Crystal Limited Edition Xbox was released in Europe to celebrate the Xbox's European birthday. Another single, "I'm Glad", was also released, but only managed to go top forty, a rather low result considering Lopez's usual chart success. Included with the Pure White console was a matching Controller S, a DVD Playback Kit, and an Xbox Live Starter Kit with a free one-year membership and voice communicator. The original retail price for the Pure White Limited Xbox was ¥19'800 yen ($186) and was only available for purchase online at the Official Xbox Japan website between the dates of January 30 and February 6, 2004. On November 26, 2002, Lopez released her fourth studio album, This Is Me.. The words "Limited Edition 2004" were also carved into the jewel of the console, and into the exclusive Controller S (right below the Xbox name). The album also included rarer dance and hip-hop remixes of her past singles, and a new song, a ballad called "Alive", which was included in Lopez's movie Enough. The system had a limited manufacturing run of 1,000 units and allowed purchasers to personalize their console with up to twenty letters (Japanese characters not allowed) engraved on the case. This time around, she got 50 Cent and Nas to write rhymes for two remixes of her next single, "I'm Gonna Be Alright", which ended up becoming another top ten hit. On February 22, 2004, a Pure White Limited Xbox Console was released in Japan, to commemorate the console's two-year anniversary in that country. This album, too, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, marking the first remix album in history to debut (or even reach) #1 on the chart. The Translucent Green Limited Edition Xbox was also released in Candada and came with one matching Controller S and two games, Crimson Skies and Project Gotham Racing 2. Following the successes of the remix, Lopez decided to devote an entire album to the effort; the result, J to tha L-O: The Remixes, appeared on February 5, 2002. The green Controller S was also sold separately. Rumors suggest this was Tommy Motolla's doing, Carey's ex-husband. The styling of the Translucent Green Xbox is identical to Debug Units used in game development; of course, the retail versions lacked the words "Debug Unit" on the front of the case. The remix of "I'm Real" sparked controversy when it contained a sample originally used for Mariah Carey's single 'Loverboy'. The console came with two matching Controller S and retailed for €229/£149. She re-released the CD on her 32nd birthday, July 24, 2001, including Ja Rule's remixed version of "I'm Real". On May 2, 2003 a Translucent Green Limited Edition Xbox was released in Europe to celebrate Xbox's one-year European birthday. Lo street credibility and brought her music to a whole new group of fans. Included with the Special Edition console was a matching white Controller S, an Xbox Component A/V cable, an Xbox Component AV pack, a copy of Panzer Dragoon Orta with its soundtrack CD, and a dragon head necklace. The "I'm Real" and "Ain't It Funny" remixes were two of the biggest pop and rap hits in late 2001 and early 2002, respectively, and their more hip-hop sound gave J. The Panzer Dragoon Orta Special Edition was priced at ¥35'800 ($358) and could only be pre-ordered on November 1, 2002 through Sega Direct. to remix both songs, completely changing the lyrics and melodies and adding raps from Ja Rule in both songs, and from Caddillac Tah to "Ain't it Funny (Remix)". The console's special features included a white case with the Panzer Dragoon Orta logo in top's the lower left hand corner, as well as some artwork from Orta surrounding the Xbox jewel. However, to capitalize on this, Lopez asked Murder Inc. This Special Edition had a limited production of 999 units; however, it is rumored that there are actually 1,049 units in total. The album's next two singles, "I'm Real" and "Ain't it Funny", ended up becoming her biggest ever hits, with both spending several weeks at #1. This quickly became the most sought-after Xbox to date. The lead single, "Love Don't Cost a Thing" was her first UK number one single, and, along with its follow-up, "Play" (which was written by rising teen star, Christina Milian) it became a top five hit during the year the album was released. On December 19, 2002, a Panzer Dragoon Orta Special Edition Xbox was released in Japan to commemorate the release of Panzer Dragoon Orta on the Xbox. Lo, was released in January 2001 and debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. Included with the Clear Black console was a matching Clear Black Controller S, an Xbox Component AV pack, and a key chain that had Bill Gates' signature and the console's serial number engraved in it. Her sophomore effort, J. The system had a limited manufacturing run of 50,000 units, and originally retailed for ¥35'800 yen. "Let's Get Loud" was also released as a single, and became a minor dance hit. In 2001, a Clear Black Limited Edition Xbox was released in Japan to commemorate the Xbox's Japanese release. The album also spawned another international hit in "Feelin' So Good", a hip-hop track which contained guest raps by Big Pun and Fat Joe; it failed to make the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100. Manufacturing photos can be found here.. Despite this, the video received moderate airplay on the US music channels VH1 and The Box as a novelty. Microsoft extended the warranty on those first generation Xboxes that came with faulty drives and fixed them for free, unlike Sony and their first generation PS2s. It also contained the Spanish language, Latin-flavored duet "No me Ames" with Marc Anthony, which was an international DAN hit, though the song was never released as a single in the US. Several internal hardware revisions have been made in an ongoing battle to discourage modding (hackers continually updated modchip designs in attempt to defeat them), cut manufacturing costs, and to provide a more reliable DVD-ROM drive (some of the early units' drives gave Disc Reading Errors). The album featured the multi-week #1 lead single, "If You Had My Love", as well as the top ten hit "Waiting for Tonight". This Japanese controller (which was briefly imported by even mainstream video game store chains, such as GameStop) was subsequently released in other markets as the "Xbox Controller S", and currently all Xbox consoles come with a "Controller S", while the original controller (known as Controller "0" or "The Duke") was quietly discontinued. Lopez's debut album, On the 6, a reference to the subway line she used to take growing up in Castle Hill, was released on June 1, 1999 and reached the top ten of the Billboard 200. In response to these criticisms, a smaller controller was introduced for the Japanese Xbox launch. In 1998, the Golden Globes organization nominated her for the "Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy" for her role in Selena. The original game controller design, which was particularly large, was similarly often criticized since it was ill-suited to those with small hands. After a nationwide search of tens of thousands of women, Jennifer was chosen to play the lead role in the film Selena. However, the Xbox has also pioneered safety features, such as breakaway cables for the controllers to prevent the console from being yanked from the shelf. She appeared in Francis Ford Coppola's 1996 comedy Jack, and the 1997 thriller Blood and Wine. Because of this, the Xbox has found itself a target of mild derision, as gamers poke fun at it for things like a warning in the Xbox manual that a falling Xbox "could cause serious injury" to a small child or pet. Lopez broke onto the big screen in 1995, in the drama My Family/Mi Familia and opposite Wesley Snipes in the action film Money Train. This is largely due to a bulky tray-loading DVD-ROM drive and the standard-size 3.5" hard drive. She danced for Janet Jackson on tour and in Jackson's video for the popular song "That's the Way Loves Goes" in 1995. The Xbox itself is much larger and heavier than its contemporaries. She got more television acting parts in the made-for-TV movie Nurses on the Line: The Crash of Flight 7. The Xbox does not use Windows CE due to Microsoft internal politics at the time, as well as limited support in Windows CE for DirectX. She later starred shortly in Second Chances and Hotel Malibu. Therefore if the Xbox crashes, the only way to recover is to reboot the console as there is no multitasking support on Real Mode. She got her big break playing a small role in a short-lived television program South Central. That is why Xbox is running on Real Mode and not Protected Mode as seen on Windows 2000. Lopez's stability during that time parlayed into the earliest successes of her career. Although the Xbox is based on commodity PC hardware and runs a stripped-down version of the Windows 2000 kernel using APIs based largely on DirectX 8.1, it incorporates changes optimized for gaming uses as well as restrictions designed to prevent uses not approved by Microsoft. She then left the show after the second season due to confliction between she and another dancer. An Xbox owner can rip music from standard Audio CDs to the hard drive so players can use their custom soundtrack in addition to the original soundtrack of Xbox games that support such feature. Some games support "Custom soundtracks," another particularly unusual feature allowed by the hard drive. She moved out of the house in protest of her controlling parents and was able to shack up with her dance teacher and literally lived on the floor of the dance studio for many years until she could pay rent with occasional work as a dancer. Most of the games also use it as a disk cache, for faster game loading times. Though she did not, and still does not, drink alcohol, her parents disapproved of her working nights so far from home and feared she was associating with a potentially dangerous crowd. The Xbox was the first console to incorporate a hard disk drive, used primarily for storing game saves (eliminating the need for separate memory cards) and content downloaded from Xbox Live. She split her time between her job at a law office, taking dance classes, and dancing in Manhattan clubs at night. Nonetheless, most of these features were not fully exploited in its first year of launch, notably the lack of Xbox Live online multiplayer. After she dropped out of high school, Lopez pursued her talent for dance. Also, the console cost as much as the high-end GeForce 3 video card alone in 2001, while having comparable graphics processing power (the Xbox's NV2A graphics chipset is a derivative of the GeForce 3). Jennifer Lopez financed singing and dancing lessons from the age of 16. At the time of its introduction, the Xbox was the only game console to do so. "That's the kind of person she is." She met the famous Jorge "Chicken Wings" Lopez from Jersey City. The Xbox was designed to take advantage of a slowdown in the saturated PC gaming market and incorporates a built-in Ethernet adapter. "Basically, anything she wants to do, she'll be as successful as you can at it," sister Lynda Lopez told Rolling Stone. This prediction turned out to be correct; Microsoft Game Studios, Microsoft's game division in charge of Xbox development, had its first profitable quarter reported in January 2005, thanks largely to the success of Halo 2[14]. Her father feared that, new to the sport, she would be outclassed, but Lopez rose to the challenge and ended up competing nationally. Microsoft predicted that it would not make a profit on the Xbox for at least three years. She went out for the track team, though she had no experience. The losses deepened when sales of the Xbox increased and when the price was reduced successive times to compete with PlayStation 2 [13]. She was a driven student and natural athlete in gymnastics, softball, and tennis. [12] In particular, the Xbox hardware itself is a loss leader, since the console was sold at a loss even at its debut price. "It was crazy." She spent her entire academic career in Catholic school, and admits she still prays regularly. Internal documents show that the Xbox division had invested $4 billion from 2000 to 2005. The large size of the hardware itself did not endear itself to the size-sensitive Japanese consumers. Lopez's parents also stressed assimilation — the need to speak English, to fit into the mainstream, to succeed. The Xbox has sold poorly in Japan mainly because Microsoft was unable to enlist enough local developers to cater to Japanese interests. "Our parents had a strong work ethic — there wasn't really any other way," Lynda Lopez told Rolling Stone. In Europe, the Xbox's market share is currently ahead of the GameCube, but is still behind the PlayStation 2. They were strict with their girls and instilled a strong work ethic in them — no one in the family was allowed to miss a day of school, work, or church (the family was devoutly Roman Catholic). The Xbox has enjoyed its greatest success in North America, where an estimated 13.5 million units have been sold and where it managed for a time to outsell the PS2[11]. Though Lopez's parents were born in the same Puerto Rican town, they did not meet until they both had moved to Castle Hill. Although ahead of the GameCube's 18.5 million, this was far behind the PlayStation 2's 90 million (after the Xbox was discontinued in favour of the Xbox 360, the GameCube and PlayStation 2 have reached 19.8 million[9] and 100 million[10], respectively). She has two sisters, Lynda and Leslie. According to company documents, Microsoft has shipped 25 million consoles to retailers worldwide at the end of 2005[8]. Lopez was born in the Bronx, New York to Puerto Rican parents Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez. However, as of February 2005, estimates show the Xbox's share of the worldwide console market is only moderately ahead of the Nintendo GameCube and far behind the PlayStation 2. . Some critics were initially concerned that the Xbox would allow Microsoft to extend its dominance of the PC software market to consoles. She is also commonly known as J-Lo or J.Lo. In July 2004, Microsoft announced that Xbox Live reached 1 million subscribers, and announced in July 2005 that Live had reached 2 million. She is married to singer Marc Anthony. 250,000 subscribers had signed on in 2 months since Live was launched [7]. Pentium III had architectural drawbacks that lessened real-world SSE throughput. Theoretical maximum 4 FLOPS/cycle (2.9 gigaFLOPS for Xbox). Four single-precision floating-point numbers in one instruction.
