Glenn Ford

As of 2004, Ford was living in quiet retirement in Beverly Hills with his son's family. He has also recently appeared on the BBC's Top Gear programme in which he launched a Suzuki Liana airborne off the final corner. The final corner has now been named 'Gambon' after this feat. In 1992 he was awarded the Legion d'Honneur medal for his action in the Second World War. He was last seen as the successor of Richard Harris playing Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). In 1962, Glenn Ford won a Golden Globe Award as best actor for his part in Frank Capra's Pocketful of Miracles, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In recent years, films such as Dancing at Lughnasa (1998) and Plunkett and Macleane (1989), as well as television appearances in series such as Wives and Daughters (1999) (for which he won another BAFTA), a made for TV adaption of Beckett's Endgame (2001) and Perfect Strangers (2001), have made him one of Britain's most sought-after actors, as well as revealing his talent for comedy. With Eleanor Powell he is the father of actor Peter Ford. Even after this success, for which he won a BAFTA award, his career was patchy, with big hits such as the 1989 film, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover interspersed with less notable work.

Ford has been married (and divorced) four times to Eleanor Powell, Jeanne Baus, Kathryn Hays and Cynthia Hayward. However, his craggy looks soon made him into a character actor, and it was not until Dennis Potter's The Singing Detective (1986) that he became a household name. His major roles in thrillers and dramas and action films include A Stolen Life, The Big Heat, Blackboard Jungle, Interrupted Melody, Experiment in Terror, Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Superman and Westerns such as The Fastest Gun Alive, 3:10 to Yuma and Cimarron. In his youth, Gambon played romantic leads, notably in the early 1970s BBC television series, The Borderers, in which he was swashbuckling Gavin Ker. Ford's movie-acting career flourished in the 1950s and 60s, and continued into the early 1990s, with increasing television roles. Sir Michael Gambon (born October 19, 1940) is one of Britain's foremost actors, knighted for his services to the theatre - despite having been born in Dublin, Ireland. He went on to be a leading man opposite Rita Hayworth in five films, and starred with other acting greats such as Bette Davis, Gloria Grahame, Ingrid Thulin.

His breakthrough role was in 1946, following military service, starring alongside Rita Hayworth in Gilda. His acting career began on stage, and his first large movie part was in 1939 film Heaven with a Barbed Wire Fence. Ford is best known for his film roles as cowboys and as an ordinary man in unusual circumstances. He was born in Sainte-Christine, Portneuf, Quebec, Canada and moved to Santa Monica, California with his family as a child.
