. Since the break up, Neil has embarked on a successful solo career and Tim has resumed his, although they have continued to work together and have recorded a total of two Finn Brothers albums 2004. In 2002 Reb Beach was replaced by John Norum (formerly with the band Europe), and Jeff Pilson was replaced by Barry Sparks on bass. 2002 also saw the release of the album Long Way Home.. However, various members of the group still turn up as guest musicians at each other's concerts on a regular basis. They released Erase the Slate in 1999 and Live from the Sun in 2000.

Finn decided to end the group soon after recording the first Finn Brothers album in 1995, and Hester returned for their massively successful free farewell concert on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in November 1996. In 1998 George left the band and was replaced by Reb Beach of the band Winger. The group broke up amicably in 1996, following Hester's acrimonious departure in April 1994 during an American tour; he was replaced for a short time by Jones. The band reunited in 1992, but didn't release an album until Dysfunctional in 1995 with Columbia Records. One Live Night (a live accoustical album) was released in 1996 by CMC, along with Shadowlifein 1997. Members of the band included Tim Finn (Neil's brother) in 1990/91, Nick Seymour, Paul Hester (1986-1994), session musician and Supertramp recruit Mark Hart (1993-1996) and Peter Jones (1994-1996). Recordings from their tour in Japan led to 1988's release of Beast from the East just before the band broke up due to creative differences between Don and George. They released four albums during their career: Crowded House, Temple of Low Men, Woodface and Together Alone, plus the posthumous Best-Of Recurring Dream as well as the rarities collection Afterglow. 1987 saw the release of Back for the Attack (another million-album release) which was also their highest charting album at #8 as well as part of the Monsters of Rock tour.

By far New Zealand's most internationally-successful popular musicians, their notable hits include "Better Be Home Soon", "Something So Strong", "Don't Dream It's Over", and the Byrds-influenced "Weather with You". In 1985 the album Under Lock and Key also sold over a million copies with hits like "In My Dreams" and "It's Not Love.". The group's output was mainly folk-influenced pop-rock, but Finn's outstanding songwriting skills made them stand out from similar bands. The album would go on to sell over one million copies in the US alone. Tim Finn joined the group for their third album, Woodface but left again soon after. 1984 was Dokken's breakout year in the US with the release of the album Tooth and Nail, which contained several hit songs ("Into the Fire", "Just Got Lucky," and "Alone Again"). Early in their career they also invited former Split Enz keyboard player Eddie Rayner to join, but he declined. Juan Croucier left Dokken in 1982 to join the band Ratt and was replaced by Jeff Pilson who became their first official bassist.

The first incarnation of the band in 1985, The Mullanes, was a 4-piece which also included guitarist Craig Hooper, formerly of The Reels, but Hooper left the group before their first album and the change of name to Crowded House. While the band was very popular in Europe by then, they had not yet made the charts in the US. Bassist Nick Seymour was the younger brother of singer-songwriter-guitarist Mark Seymour, leader of Australian rock group Hunters & Collectors. In 1981 the band released the album Breaking the Chains in Europe, which was re-mastered and re-released by Elektra Records in the US in 1983. Neil Finn and Paul Hester were former members of Split Enz; Neil was the younger brother of Split Enz founding member Tim Finn. In 1978 Juan Croucier replaced Peter Baltes as another temporary bassist; that same year the band released the singles "Hard Rock Woman," and "Paris is Burning.". The group had important connections in the Australian and New Zealand rock scenes. Dokken's history started in the late 1970s when guitarist George Lynch and drummer Mick Brown from the group Xciter teamed up with Don Dokken on vocals and Peter Baltes as a temporary bassist to record Back in the Streets with Carerre Records.

Performing in the 1980s and 1990s, the group was based around the songwriting and vocal talents of lead singer, composer and guitarist Neil Finn. Recently, Dokken has released their latest album, Hell To Pay, which has gotten rave reviews in metal circles. Crowded House was an Australasian rock group; two original members were from Australia and one was from New Zealand. Don Dokken went on to a successful solo career, while George Lynch formed the Lynch Mob and recorded several albums. Jeff Pilson too released his acclaimed War And Peace album. Their early albums like Tooth And Nail, Under Lock And Key, Back For The Attack and Beast From The East were highly successful, but after that, intra-band rifts and spats ensured that the band would eventually break up.

1999 Afterglow, a collection of rare and unreleased tracks from the vaults (I Am in Love, Sacred Cow, You Can Touch, Help Is Coming, I Love You Dawn, Dr. Dokken was comprised of founder Don Dokken on vocals, George Lynch on lead guitars, Jeff Pilson on bass and Mick Brown on drums. All of the tracks were singles. Although their image was somewhat "glam," their music was traditionally heavy with technical expertise. 1996 Recurring Dream, a best of album (Weather With You, World Where You Live, Fall At Your Feet, Locked Out, Don't Dream It's Over, Into Temptation, Pineapple Head, When You Come, Private Universe, Not The Girl You Think You Are, Instinct, I Feel Possessed, Four Seasons In One Day, It's Only Natural, Distant Sun, Something So Strong, Mean To Me, Better Be Home Soon, Everything Is Good For You). The music consisted of traditional metal characterized by extravagant use of lead guitars and soaring vocals backed by a heavy thumping bass. 1993 Together Alone, (Kare Kare, In My Command, Nails in My Feet, Black and White Boy, Fingers of Love, Pineapple Head, Locked Out, Private Universe, Walking on the Spot, Distant Sun, Catherine Wheels, Skin Feeling, Together Alone). Dokken was formed in 1978, one of the classic metal bands from that era, joining contemporaries like Twisted Sister, Judas Priest, Quiet Riot and Iron Maiden.
