Burton was born and raised in the Canadian prairie city of Winnipeg, as were the rest of "The Guess Who". His first band was "The Devrons", which at the time was one of Winnipeg's biggest bands. He joined "The Guess Who" in 1965 after its previous lead singer, Allen Cobell, left the band. In 1975, after 10 years, Burton left "The Guess Who" to become a solo artist. Some of his well known solo hits include "Stand Tall", "Scared", and "Break it to Them Gently". In 2000, Burton as well as the rest of the original members of "The Guess Who" went on a nation-wide tour which turned out to be very successful. Since then he purchased Winnipeg's "Salisbury House" restaurant chain with The Guess Who manager Lorne Saifer and a few other local celebrities, and still tours with the reunited "The Guess Who" every summer. In 2001, Burton and the rest of The Guess Who received honourary doctorates at Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba. Most recently, the band played at the so-called "SARSstock" concert in Toronto. On November 23rd, 2004, Burton Cummings' new single "With God On Our Side" debuted at 21st spot on Canadian music charts. "With God On Our Side" is a cover of the famous Bob Dylan song. Cummings is planning on releasing a new album in the summer of 2005, as well as tour with Randy Bachman as The Bachman-Cummings Band, featuring The Carpet Frogs, a band from Toronto. With an organised management, (Kamikatze records), Cunning Dorx has become a more professional youth band out of a not so serious school band experiment. "With God On Our Side" is a cover of the famous Bob Dylan song. The band has obviously improved since regular rehearsals are part of their routine. On November 23rd, 2004, Burton Cummings' new single "With God On Our Side" debuted at 21st spot on Canadian music charts. The Cunning Dorx started a new beginning and their 'revival' turned out well, mainly through the engagement of several new artists and involvement in new projects, doing a great deal for the realisation of their musical aims. Most recently, the band played at the so-called "SARSstock" concert in Toronto. Moreover, rumours that the band was going to break up persisted until their first album Flauschangriff was published in 2001. In 2001, Burton and the rest of The Guess Who received honourary doctorates at Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba. The then-emerging lack of motivation held back any progress of the young band and consequently diminished their audience. Their first public concert took place in the country disco, Train; the gig was a success. 1981 You Saved My Soul. The career of the band members started with a contest and several performances within their circle of friends, where their first devoted fans came from. 1980 One And Only. The initial repertoire contained covers of Nirvana, R.E.M., and Soundgarden songs, and some of their own songs written by Beno Unger. 1980 Mile A Second. In May the four of them came to an agreement about the band name "Cunning Dorx", and the first rehearsals took place soon afterwards. 1980 Fine State Of Affairs.
