She appeared in the 1974 James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun. In 2000, she stopped making public appearances after she revealed that she has Parkinson's disease. She later had a much-publicised romance with "bad-boy" rock star Rod Stewart, and in 1984 she married rock musician, Slim Jim Phantom, who was almost twenty years her junior; they also divorced. One of the most ironic things about casting Getty in this role was that she is actually two months younger than Bea Arthur: on Golden Girls, Getty was heavily made-up to seem significantly older. Britt Ekland became famous as a result of her whirlwind romance with British actor and comedian, Peter Sellers, who proposed after seeing her photograph in the paper; they had one daughter, Victoria, before divorcing. In it, she played the wise-cracking old Italian mother of Dorothy, who was the show's main protagonist, played by Bea Arthur.
