Basement Jaxx

Basement Jaxx are a critically acclaimed UK house music duo comprised of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe that rose to popularity in the late 1990s. Basement Jaxx started in Brixton, south London in 1994.

1997's Atlantic Jaxx Recordings is a compilation of select releases on their Atlanic Jaxx label from 1994 to 1997. It includes early Basement Jaxx hits including "Samba Magic" and the anthemic "Flylife".

In 1999, Basement Jaxx released their first full length album, Remedy, to wide acclaim. Remedy includes the "Red Alert", "Rendez Vu", "Jump N' Shout", and "Bingo Bango" singles. "Red Alert" was used in a Coca-Cola commercial. Basement Jaxx also released Jaxx Unreleased, a compilation of b-sides, remixes, and other assorted material, in 1999.

Their next full length album, 2001's Rooty included singles "Romeo", "Jus 1 Kiss", "Where's Your Head At?", and "Get Me Off". The music video for album opener "Romeo" is a parody of a bollywood movie. "Where's Your Head At?", which relies on a sample of Gary Numan's "M.E." for its hook, became a huge international hit in 2002 (see 2002 in music) and is perhaps Basement Jaxx's best known song.

2003 brought Basement Jaxx's third full length album, Kish Kash, which included contributions from Lisa Kekaula (of the Bellrays), Me'shell Ndegeocello, Dizzee Rascal, Cotlyn Jackson, J C Chasez, Siouxsie Sioux, and Phoebe.

2003 brought Basement Jaxx's third full length album, Kish Kash, which included contributions from Lisa Kekaula (of the Bellrays), Me'shell Ndegeocello, Dizzee Rascal, Cotlyn Jackson, J C Chasez, Siouxsie Sioux, and Phoebe. In May 2004 Gift of Gab released his first solo album, but he assured fans that Blackalicious was alive and well. "Where's Your Head At?", which relies on a sample of Gary Numan's "M.E." for its hook, became a huge international hit in 2002 (see 2002 in music) and is perhaps Basement Jaxx's best known song. This was followed by a major label contract with MCA Records and the release of the critically acclaimed album Blazing Arrow in 2002. The music video for album opener "Romeo" is a parody of a bollywood movie. In 2000, SoleSides became Quannum Projects and Blackalicious released Nia, their debut full length. Their next full length album, 2001's Rooty included singles "Romeo", "Jus 1 Kiss", "Where's Your Head At?", and "Get Me Off". The single was an underground hit, but label trouble kept Blackalicious from immediately capitalizing on their fame.

Basement Jaxx also released Jaxx Unreleased, a compilation of b-sides, remixes, and other assorted material, in 1999. The SoleSides Crew consisted of the two and friends of theirs who all met at UC Davis, including DJ Shadow, Latyrx (Consisting of MCs Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truth Speaker). "Red Alert" was used in a Coca-Cola commercial. Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel formed the group in the early 1990s and released their first recording, "Swan Lake", on SoleSides Records. Remedy includes the "Red Alert", "Rendez Vu", "Jump N' Shout", and "Bingo Bango" singles. Blackalicious is an American alternative hip hop duo.
