Avery Brooks (born October 2, 1948 in Evansville, Indiana) is an American actor.

He has made movie and television appearances since the 1980s (Uncle Tom's Cabin, American History X, A Man Called Hawk, Spenser: For Hire). He is always dedicated to the issues around African-Americans and recently plays Shakespeare. He is also Associate Professor in Theater Arts at Rutgers University. Brooks is perhaps best known for the leading role of Benjamin Sisko on the science-fiction television series Star Trek:Deep Space Nine.
