The group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2000. However, the Anastacia album and "Left Outside Alone" had not been released in the US as at the end of April 2004. The Japanese version of the album features as bonus tracks both sides of their debut single. Strong airplay throughout Europe caused the song to achieve a Top 40 Charts world airplay ranking as one of the top five songs played on top 40 radio stations throughout the world in April 2004. The title track was written by Elvis Costello. The "Left Outside Alone" single proved to be equally successfully reaching number 1 in Italy, Austria and Switzerland; and number 3 in the UK, and reaching the top 5 in Ausralia and on the composite European chart. Doll Revolution, featuring such songs as "Stealing Rosemary", "Ride the Ride", "Nickel Romeo", and the single "Something That You Said", was released in early 2003.

Anastacia proved to be a smash hit reaching the top of the album charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and Italy and number 2 in Spain. A cover version of "Eternal Flame" was a 2001 UK #1 for Atomic Kitten. On the album, Anastacia also went for a more rock sound with the track "I Do", which featured Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D.. In 2000 they reformed to tour, and in 2001-2002 recorded a new record. The first single, released in March 2004, was "Left Outside Alone". 1988's Everything was another multi-platinum smash, and included their biggest selling single in the soft ballad "Eternal Flame", but working relationships within the band had broken down and they split shortly after, with Hoffs embarking on a solo career and Vicki Peterson touring as a member of The Go-Gos and the Continental Drifters. Anastacia subsequently established a fund through the Breast Cancer Research Fund to promote awareness of breast cancer amongst younger women. Anastacia entered record studios in September 2003 to record the Anastacia album with Glen Ballard, Dallas Austin, and Dave Stewart for release in 2004. They soon had another #2 hit with a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Hazy Shade Of Winter," from the soundtrack of the film "Less Than Zero.".

She immediately successfully completed a course of treatment. The accompanying album Different Light (1986) was more polished than its predecessor and, with the help of the worldwide #1 hit "Walk Like An Egyptian", saw the band firmly in the mainstream as FM radio and MTV stalwarts. In January 2003, Anastacia discovered she had breast cancer while preparing for breast reduction surgery due to orthopedic reasons. The Bangles' debut album on Columbia, All Over The Place (1984) captured their power-pop roots, and attracted the attention of Prince, who wrote "Manic Monday", a US #2 hit, for the group. Anastacia also contributed a song "Love Is A Crime" to the Chicago soundtrack. Zilinskas left in 1983 and was replaced with Michael Steele, formerly of The Runaways. Anastacia also joined Shakira, Cher and Mary J. Blige for VH1's Divas Live in 2002. This lineup put out the Bangles EP that same year.

Its debut single, "One Day In Your Life", though not a smash hit, just barely made the top 40 and was also a hit on the club charts and at rhythmic radio. The original lineup was Susanna Hoffs (guitar, vocals), Debbi Peterson (drums, vocals, bass), and Vicki Peterson (guitar, vocals, bass); this lineup made one 45, "Getting out of Hand" b/w "Call on Me." Annette Zilinskas took over bass duties in 1982 and also played harmonica. However, her sophomore effort did beat its predecessor in her home country. They were forced to change their name to The Bangles when a band from New Jersey, also named The Bangs, threatened to sue. Her second album, 2002's Freak Of Nature achieved respectable sales although not matching the level of international success of Not That Kind. The band was formed in Los Angeles in 1981 as The Supersonic Bangs, later shortened to The Bangs. While "I'm Outta Love" was a top ten song on the US dance charts, Not That Kind only reached the lower parts of the Billboard 200, since the single never managed to cross over to the American pop charts. The Bangles are a popular American pop band started in the mid-1980s, one of the new generation of independent all-women bands that followed The Go-Gos.

It went triple platinum in Australia spurred by the success of her debut smash "I'm Outta Love" which was the most popular single of the year in that country for 2000. Her debut album Not That Kind was released in 2000 and was a huge success reaching the top ten in eight countries in Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Anastacia signed a contract with Daylight Records, a custom label of Sony Music's Epic Records in March 1999. In 1999, she attracted the interest of record labels after making the finals of MTV talent show The Cut.

During the early '90's, she appeared regularly on Club MTV and in a couple of videos for rappers Salt-N-Pepa. Anastacia soon became interested in dance despite being diagnosed with the intestinal disease Crohn's Disease. Her family relocated to New York City when she was a teenager and she enrolled at the Professional Children's School in Manhattan. Anastacia was born in Chicago, Illinois into a showbiz family: her father was a singer and her mother an actress in Broadway musical theatre.
