Alexis married Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow Rosenberg in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, on October 11, 2003. In 1995 he started dating Francesca Annis, his co-star in Hamlet. He has done many stage productions, including one with Anthony Stewart Head, who played Wesley's predecessor Rupert Giles on Buffy. He later showed up on Angel, and became a regular character in that series from episode 11. In 1994 he portrayed New England aristocrat Charles Van Doren in Quiz Show, and in 1996 he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for The English Patient. After Buffy parted ways with the Watchers' Council, Wesley was out of a job. But it was in the following year that he became known internationally, portraying Amon Goeth, the amoral Nazi concentration camp commander in Schindler's List, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
