Partly in response, Orbitz announced in May 2002 it would make its fares available to travel agents offline. This story was read by over a hundred thousand people within less than a week, and instigated a boycott against the company by many of these readers. Orbitz responded to the many thousands of emails that Maddox readers sent to them. The readers forwarded those emails to Maddox, who posted it on his site:
