. The two teams faced off in the finals, with Jokerit losing three games to one and having to settle for the silver. With a strong team, Jokerit looked set to win the regular season and take the championship when an inexplicable late-season collapse allowed Kärpät to take and keep the regular season lead.
2005 Grammy Awards
In 2005, Kanye West received ten Grammy Award nominations, making him the most nominated artist of 2005. Teemu Selänne officially joined the Jokerit lineup in December, but he spent the spring rehabbing his injured knee and was unable to play any games for the team. His nominations included (Awards won in bold):.

As the NHL lockout was extended, Jokerit hired Brian Campbell, and Ossi Väänänen returned to his hometown team from the Colorado Avalanches in December. He also performed Touch the Sky after an appearance by long-time friend and comedian DeRay Davis (Barbershop, Wild N Out) who revisited his character as the leader of the fictional fraternity "Broke Phi Broke" from Late Registration. Thomas played in every game of the season bar two with a save percentage of 94.59% and a record-breaking 15 shutouts, for which he won the "Kultainen kypärä" MVP award. At the ceremony, West performed Gold Digger with Jamie Foxx and members of the Florida A&M Marching 100 marching band. On February 8, 2006, West won three Grammy Awards after being nominated for eight, alongside Mariah Carey and his own protégé, John Legend. Metropolit became a firm fan favorite, and many were sorry to see him leave the Finnish league after the 2004-05 season. There is also speculation that he is producing tracks for Jay-Z in 2006, that he has a major sleeper from Louisiana up his sleeve, and infinite hits for radio and underground equally.

In the spring of 2003 Jokerit acquired forward Glen Metropolit from the Washington Capitals organization; despite his unimpressive NHL record, Metropolit became scoring leader of Jokerit in both the 2003-04 regular season and playoffs, as well as the 2004-05 regular season. Artists rumored to release an album in 2006 are SA-RA, Consequence and GLC. The 2002-03 and 03-04 seasons yielded no medals for Jokerit. Music label. They had a near-perfect season, losing only the 1983 finals extremely narrowly - and bitterly - to local rivals. government through the polio vaccine. With Mäkinen's controversial manner of management added to these, the club turned into a center of turbulence. West and the band met at the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards, where they sat down together to share praise and advice. Success slowly declined and Jokerit had to qualify against relegation several times. In early 2005, West coined the term "white crunk" to describe the gritty drum sounds of Scottish alternative dance-rock group Franz Ferdinand, whom he claims is among his favorite bands. He started downsizing the team's budget by methodically replacing departing stars with junior players. Kanye West is also credited with revitalizing the careers of such rappers as Common and Twista, as well as more recently producing the critically acclaimed The Game track "Dreams.".

Despite winning Finnish championship silver in 1971 and gold in 1973, Jokerit didn't develop financially profitable for Mäkinen. West is also featured on Brandy's single, "Talk About Our Love." Others with whom West has collaborated include Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Hugh "MC Son" Ryan, Dilated Peoples, Mariah Carey, Miri Ben-Ari (whose violin arrangements featured heavily on The College Dropout), and John Legend (who also features on West's first album, providing background vocals). Kanada-sarja didn't survive the 1970s, but Jokerit benefitted from it through a steady flow of emerging talent including Jari Kurri, and by gaining a strong popular base in the outer urban zones of Helsinki. West, holder of three Grammys, has collaborated with numerous artists, most notably with rapper Twista on songs such as "Overnight Celebrity" and "Slow Jamz" (also featuring Jamie Foxx) - the latter would reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, becoming the first number one hit for all artists involved. Mäkinen also enhanced the club's junior organisation by launching a competition of their own, called Kanada-sarja, with 500 participating junior players, a figure that cumulatively tripled in a few years. The album went on to sell over 904,000 copies in its first week, and spun off eight Grammy Award nominations including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for "Gold Digger." West announced that his third and fourth albums will be titled Graduation and A Good Ass Job, respectively. This became the trademark of Jokerit that stuck all the way to the late 1990s. The first two singles were "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" (which contained samples from Shirley Bassey's "Diamonds Are Forever") and "Gold Digger" featuring Jamie Foxx.

He guided the team, with success, towards a play that demanded technique and clever tactics. On August 30th, 2005, Kanye West released his second album Late Registration. Lampainen, however, reckoned physical play unsuitable for the line-up at hand (consider nallipyssyketju). A later single from the album, "Jesus Walks," would become a major success, and later a staple of his benefit performances, such as at the Live 8 concert. SM-sarja underwent a tactical revolution as physical, mean play became a means to success. "Through the Wire", which sampled Chaka Khan's classic track "Through the Fire," would eventually become his lead single from The College Dropout, which was released on Roc-a-Fella Records in February 2004. In 1969, IIHF had loosened amateur rules by permitting bodychecking anywhere in the rink (old rules allowed bodychecking only in defensive end). With his mouth still wired shut and weeks after his accident, he recorded his song "Through the Wire.".

Other mentionworthy reinforcements, that came later, were forward Jouko Öystilä and defenceman Timo Saari, and finally, head coach Matti Lampainen. A car crash on October 23, 2002 left his jaw fractured in three places. Among them were the national team regulars defenceman Ilpo Koskela with forwards Henry Leppä and Timo Sutinen, whose relationship with the club lasted long. He was therefore not marketable as an artist portraying the "typical rapper image.". Immediately after the promotion was secured, Mäkinen began an aggressive acquisition of star players. Multiple record companies put him aside because he was not a former 'street hustler' and did not wear the orthodox hip-hop apparel. Promotion to the highest level, SM-sarja, took place two years later. Due to his appearance and overall style, West struggled to find a way to get his own voice on record.

With him, Pentti Hiiros and Timo Kyntölä would form nallipyssyketju ("cap gun line", referring to their lack of height - Hiiros was the tallest at 172 cm) until 1975, when the latter retired. West became a major name in hip-hop production following the release of Jay-Z's critically-acclaimed album The Blueprint, which featured six tracks produced by West. Even though dramatic changes in the line-up did not appear directly, only a few players from Töölön Vesa saw prolonged employment: Timo Turunen would be the most distinguished, remaining even today as the club's all-time goal scoring leader. Although West's music speaks of his own and black America's economic struggle, in actuality West's mother was a distinguished doctor and Kanye was born into a privileged family. Mäkinen did not intend his new club to loiter in the lower series. West himself worked on his solo album for a long period of time, having the release pushed back on multiple occasions. Their home venue was Helsingin jäähalli. He gained some fame by producing hit singles for major Hip-Hop/R&B artists, including Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Janet Jackson, Brandy, Talib Kweli, Hugh "MC Son" Ryan ,Ludacris and John Legend.

The insignia, winking jester, was adapted from jokers of various card decks and drawn by graphic designer Jorma Hinkka. Even while attending school, West produced for local acts. The club's sole owner Mäkinen chose to wield sovereign power, becoming in practice also the board and managing director. According to recently released police documents, he was briefly investigated for stalking Pat Buchanan. Officially Jokerit were established on October 27th 1967 at their constitutional meeting. After attending Columbia College, a local art school in Chicago, and then Chicago State University, West dropped out and began working on his music career. Master-builder Aimo Mäkinen seized the opportunity to establish a semi-professional sports club of his own, and for the price of half of Vesa's ice hockey debts the new ice hockey club inherited everything, including junior players and the vacant position in second highest Finnish series, Suomen sarja. .
