Actor Roddy McDowall, who co-starred with her in a 1966 film, said: "no actress was ever so good in so many bad films.". In 2004, he was given a special BAFTA award and announced that he would make new episodes of The Two Ronnies with Ronnie Corbett. Although Weld had the final say in such matters, many question the quality of advice her agent was providing. This was followed up by a role in the film My House in Umbria 2003. In part, her lack of great success was as a result of her turning down roles in films that were great successes and that made mega-stars out of others such as Lolita, the lead in Bonnie and Clyde, True Grit and in Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. Barker has made occasional TV appearances since his retirement, most notably to play Winston Churchill's butler - a 'straight' role, but with opportunities for comic asides - in the BBC drama The Gathering Storm 2002. However, Weld never achieved the level of stardom many thought her looks and talent could bring. His other credits include the (almost) silent films Futtock's End, The Picnic and By The Sea, the sit-coms His Lordship Entertains and Clarence, the plays Rub A Dub Dub and Mum, and the LP A Pint of Old and Filthy.

Although frequently typecast as the "blonde in the tight sweater," both the critics and working members of the film industry acknowledged her talent. He provided a good deal of the sketches and songs for The Two Ronnies, and contributed material to many other radio and TV shows - often under a variety of assumed names (most famously 'Gerald Wiley'), so that his work would be considered on merit. Tuesday Weld appeared with Jackie Gleason and Steve McQueen in the 1963 comedy/drama, Soldier in the Rain and although her performance was well received, the film was only a minor success. He is also an accomplished comedy writer. However, in Hollywood, her reputation for a reckless lifestyle was fodder for the gossip columnists and Louella Parsons reportedly said, as politely as possible, that "Miss Weld is not a very good representative for the motion picture industry." The romance with Elvis did not last long after Colonel Tom Parker cautioned Presley against the relationship, fearful it would harm his image. Both Porridge and Open All Hours originated as part of the Seven of One series. In 1961, after starring opposite Elvis Presley in Wild in the Country, the two began an off-screen romance. Jason apeared in several episodes of Porridge, and co-starred as the assistant to Barker's stuttering shopkeeper in the sitcom Open All Hours, written by Roy Clarke (who also wrote Last of the Summer Wine).

Added to her problem in a business where looks are everything, she had to deal with a weight problem throughout most of her life. Both he and Jason are widely recognised as having an excellent sense of comic timing and delivery, which accounts for their enduring popularity. Physically, she appeared well beyond her twelve years and at that age had already began dating older boys, losing her virginity in a hapless relationship that, combined with her other problems, led to a suicide attempt. On television, he wrote and performed many satirical skits in The Frost Report, and starred with David Jason as a bumbling aristocrat in the sit-com Hark at Barker. Although Weld was only a cast member for a few months, the show gave her considerable national publicity and she was named a co-winner of a "Most Promising Newcomer" award at the Golden Globe Awards. The two appeared together there, in Ben Travers's A Cuckoo in the Nest and, subsequently, in a number of other venues and roles. In 1959, still only sixteen years old, she was given a role in the CBS television show, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. His began his showbusiness career when he left his safe job in an Oxford bank to join the city's Playhouse Theatre, then under the actor-management of Frank Shelley. In the film, Connie Francis did the vocals for Weld's singing parts. His skills as a character actor, his love for and facility with the English language, and his gift for comedy have made him a well-loved performer.

She then got the lead in a film celebrating the advent of Rock and Roll called Rock, Rock, Rock that featured record promoter Alan Freed and singers Chuck Berry, Frankie Lymon, and Johnny Burnette, plus others.
