Sonya Smith

Smith remains a popular actress in Venezuela. In 1999, her boyfriend David Strickland committed suicide. Her breakthrough came in the early 1990s, as "Estrellita Montenegro" in Cara Sucia, a Spanish soap opera that was viewed by millions across Latin America, in the United States and Europe. During the filming of another soap opera, Milagros, she met actor Paul Martin, whom she allegedly dated. In 2002, she appeared in the film Hollywood Ending by Woody Allen. As a young girl, she identified deeply with Venezuela's Latin American culture. Her transition to movies has not gone well so far, as most of her movies, including Love Stinks, have been critically panned. Born in Philadelphia, Smith grew up in Venezuela, which is the reason why she speaks Spanish perfectly. She later starred in the short-lived action show Fastlane.
