This page will contain news stories about Shania Twain, as they become available.Shania TwainShania TwainShania Twain (born August 28, 1965) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Born Eileen Regina Edwards in Windsor, Ontario to Sharon and Clarence Edwards, she grew up as Eileen Twain in Timmins, Ontario after her parents separated when she was two and her mother married Jerry Twain. In 1991, when she signed her first recording contract with Mercury Nashville Records, she changed her name to Shania which is an Ojibwa language word meaning "I'm on my way". The city of Timmins later renamed a street for her and built the "Shania Twain Museum". At the age of 13, Eileen Twain was invited to perform on CBC television's Tommy Hunter Show. During high school in Timmins, she was the vocalist for a local band which covered Top 40 music. When her mother and adoptive father died in a car crash in 1987, Eileen took her two younger brothers and sister to Huntsville, Ontario where she supported the family by performing at a local resort. In 1991, after an entertainment lawyer from Nashville heard her act, she was invited to record a demo tape. Initially known as a country music artist, after her musical collaboration with (and subsequent marriage to) rock producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, her music veered towards pop, with huge commercial success following. Her album "The Woman In Me" caught fire due to singles like "Any Man Of Mine" and "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" It eventually topped the Country charts for months and became a massive crossover on the mainstream charts, peaking at #5 and topping out at 12 million sold. In 1997, Shania released her follow-up album, "Come On Over." Selling 172,000 out of the gate and peaking at #2, the album was seen by many at first as a disappointment, given the massive success of her last effort. But slowly, the album started racking up sales. It never hit the top spot, but with the single "You're Still The One," sales skyrocketed. Songs like "Don't Be Stupid," "Man! I Feel Like A Woman," "That Don't Impress Me Much," and "From This Moment On" joined the 11 songs that eventually saw release as singles. Over the next two years, the album stayed on the charts, spinning off hit after hit. Shania toured the globe in support of the album. When the dust finally settled, Come On Over had sold 20 million copies in America and 39 million worldwide, making it the biggest album by a female artist in history. Many newer fans were totally unaware of her country music roots, particularly as singles released outside the United States and Canada featured remixed versions de-emphasising country-style instrumentation. After having a child in 2001, Shania went back into the studio to record the follow-up to her blockbuster album "Come On Over." "Up!" was released in November of 2002, making it 5 years since the world had new material from her. Naturally, she toured again to support it. A double-album, it featured 19 songs in pop mixes and the same 19 songs in country mixes. Internationally the country mixes were replaced by world mixes. "Up!" debuted at #1 to good reviews, selling 874,000 in the first week alone. It charted at the top for 5 weeks. Despite hit singles like "Gonna Getcha Good," "Up!" and "Forever And For Always," "Up!" didn't have the staying power of "Come On Over." It sold 5 million in America, roughly down 75% from it's predecessor. Since it was a double album, it has been certified 10x Platinum. In 2004, Shania decided to release a greatest hits album. It got overwhelmingly positive reviews across the board and quickly sold 2 million copies in the US in just a month and a half. To be continued.... DiscographyAlbums

Shania Twain has won numerous awards, including "Best Country Album", "Top Country Artist of the Year", and "Best Songwriter". Former members:. Total US Sales 44 million Worldwide 81 million. The band currently consists of the following members:. To be continued.... As of July 2002, Weezer had sold more than 5,000,000 copies of their albums. It got overwhelmingly positive reviews across the board and quickly sold 2 million copies in the US in just a month and a half. The DVD hit hard on the DVD compilation charts and was declared "Gold" on November 8, 2004. In 2004, Shania decided to release a greatest hits album. Titled "Video Capture Device", the DVD contains all of their current music videos, live concerts, and homemade movies. Since it was a double album, it has been certified 10x Platinum. In March of 2004, Weezer released their first DVD. Despite hit singles like "Gonna Getcha Good," "Up!" and "Forever And For Always," "Up!" didn't have the staying power of "Come On Over." It sold 5 million in America, roughly down 75% from it's predecessor. "Keep Fishin'" combined Weezer with The Muppets and became an MTV staple. It charted at the top for 5 weeks. However, it was the follow up, "Keep Fishin'", that would place Weezer in an elite group of defining music video makers of the early 2000s. "Up!" debuted at #1 to good reviews, selling 874,000 in the first week alone. Their video for "Photograph" was a staple for Much Music USA (now Fuse). Maladroit's "Dope Nose" was unspectacular at best, though it was put into a rather regular rotation. Internationally the country mixes were replaced by world mixes. They then recorded two videos for "Island in the Sun," the first focusing on a Mexican wedding, and the second involving Weezer with animals in a wildlife reserve. A double-album, it featured 19 songs in pop mixes and the same 19 songs in country mixes. It would take the sumo clip of "Hash Pipe" (or as the title card stated, "H*** Pipe") to bring Weezer back into the eyes of music video viewers. Naturally, she toured again to support it. However, Weezer's Pinkerton videos were not well played and quickly forgotten. After having a child in 2001, Shania went back into the studio to record the follow-up to her blockbuster album "Come On Over." "Up!" was released in November of 2002, making it 5 years since the world had new material from her. The video is akin to other defining videos of the 90s such as Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight," because all three of these videos helped the artists reach an audience not often reached by alternative rock bands. Many newer fans were totally unaware of her country music roots, particularly as singles released outside the United States and Canada featured remixed versions de-emphasising country-style instrumentation. While "Undone (The Sweater Song)" was big on MTV, it was the Spike Jonze-directed "Buddy Holly" video, which used footage from various episodes of Happy Days, that made them pop icons. When the dust finally settled, Come On Over had sold 20 million copies in America and 39 million worldwide, making it the biggest album by a female artist in history. Weezer is also very well known for their innovative music videos. Shania toured the globe in support of the album. Later the name Goat Punishment was used while the members of Weezer recorded a show for the HBO concert series, Reverb. Over the next two years, the album stayed on the charts, spinning off hit after hit. Their first shows under the pseudonym featured the new Weezer lineup (now featuring Mikey Welsh) playing covers of songs by Nirvana and Oasis. Songs like "Don't Be Stupid," "Man! I Feel Like A Woman," "That Don't Impress Me Much," and "From This Moment On" joined the 11 songs that eventually saw release as singles. Weezer has also played several shows under the pseudonym Goat Punishment. It never hit the top spot, but with the single "You're Still The One," sales skyrocketed. The discovery set the tentative date for the release of the fifth album, Make Believe, as April or May of 2005. But slowly, the album started racking up sales. On Friday, January 7, 2005 several Weezer fans noticed that several radio stations had announced the next single from the band (entitled "Beverly Hills") would be released on March 21 or March 22 of the same year. In 1997, Shania released her follow-up album, "Come On Over." Selling 172,000 out of the gate and peaking at #2, the album was seen by many at first as a disappointment, given the massive success of her last effort. In the summer and early fall of 2004, the members of Weezer recorded a large amount of material intended for a new album to be released in the spring of 2005. A fourth album, Maladroit, was released in 2002 (see 2002 in music), and served as a departure from the catchy pop-influenced music of The Green Album. In 1991, after an entertainment lawyer from Nashville heard her act, she was invited to record a demo tape. This album quickly became known as The Green Album. Shortly after the release of The Green Album, Weezer went on another American tour, attracting many new fans along the way. When her mother and adoptive father died in a car crash in 1987, Eileen took her two younger brothers and sister to Huntsville, Ontario where she supported the family by performing at a local resort. Weezer (2001) was self-titled again to signify a sort of rebirth for Weezer. During high school in Timmins, she was the vocalist for a local band which covered Top 40 music. Eventually, the band went back into the studio to produce a third album. At the age of 13, Eileen Twain was invited to perform on CBC television's Tommy Hunter Show. During the tour, Cuomo began writing songs again, and Weezer played some of them live. The city of Timmins later renamed a street for her and built the "Shania Twain Museum". The tour was a huge hit, and sold out several of the large venues it traveled to. In 1991, when she signed her first recording contract with Mercury Nashville Records, she changed her name to Shania which is an Ojibwa language word meaning "I'm on my way". In 2000, Weezer re-formed and went on tour without a new album. Born Eileen Regina Edwards in Windsor, Ontario to Sharon and Clarence Edwards, she grew up as Eileen Twain in Timmins, Ontario after her parents separated when she was two and her mother married Jerry Twain. However, thanks to word-of-mouth and a strong following on internet, Weezer's popularity continued to grow. Shania Twain (born August 28, 1965) is a Canadian singer and songwriter.
