This was decried by many as a simple celebrity public relations move. Ten days after her death, Dusty Springfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In response, Shakira gave an unprofitable concert in Buenos Aires and further promoted her humanitarian children's foundation "Pies Descalzos" (Bare feet), named after her third album. She was diagnosed with breast cancer after releasing A Very Fine Love and died after a remission in 1999. In light of the humanitarian and social crisis in Argentina, many members of the press lampooned the relationship as frivolous and arrogant. She capitalized on her new fans by releasing Reputation, which was a best-selling album. Since 2000, she has been engaged to Antonio de la Rúa, the son of the former President of Argentina. This changed in 1987, when Springfield released a duet with the Pet Shop Boys called What Have I Done to Deserve This?, which was popular all across the world and led to a new renaissance for her work.

As Gabriel García Márquez once wrote of her, "Shakira's music has a personal stamp that doesn't look like anyone else's and no one can sing or dance like her, at whatever age, with such an innocent sensuality, one that seems to be of her own invention.". She continued to release critically lauded but commercially unsuccessful albums and singles throughout the late 70s and 1980s, but rarely charted and soon drifted from popular view. Shakira is considered by many to be a great talent. Springfield put her career on hold during the 1970s, though she did work with Anne Murray, and focused on solving long-time problems with substance abuse. Vocal compilations by Rita Quintero. Similarly, her next two albums followed the same pattern, See All Her Faces (1972) and Cameo. She co-writes and co-produces her songs with Luis Fernando Ochoa and Lester Méndez. A Brand New Me (1970) was just as unsuccessful commercially, though also a critical darling.

This is rumoured to be a Double CD featuring both Spanish and English songs. The album, Dusty in Memphis, is her magnum opus and is still regarded as one of the best soul albums of all time, best known for Son of a Preacher Man, which was a hit in both the United States and the United Kingdom, though the album itself was a flop. Shakira is currently writing and recording her next album, scheduled to come out in early 2005. She signed with Atlantic Records and recorded an album in Memphis, Tennessee with producers Jerry Wexler, Arif Mardin and Tom Dowd. The concerts were interspersed with visuals of a mongoose fighting a cobra. With the rise of psychedelic music in the late 1960s, Springfield was rapidly becoming unhip at a time when hipness was very important. "The Tour of the Mongoose" was so-called because a mongoose is the only animal that can defeat a cobra without being killed by its poison. Meanwhile, she released such classic singles as Losing You, Your Hurtin' Kinda Love and In the Middle of Nowhere, culminating in the huge hit, You Don't Have to Say You Love Me.

Shakira: Live & Off the Record, a DVD and a 10-song CD from her 2002-03 world tour (the "Tour of the Mongoose"), was released March 30th, 2004. In 1965, Springfield began hosting The Sound of Motown, a British TV show which introduced Motown and American soul music to British audiences. In 2002, Shakira also released the greatest hits volume Grandes éxitos. She created a controversy when she refused to play in front of a segregated crowd in South Africa. Shakira is well known for intense, athletic performances involving belly dancing and arabic rhythms. By 1964, Springfield was one of the biggest solo artists of her day. Some people said that Shakira's English skills were too weak for her to write in English, but Laundry Service was nevertheless a big hit, best known for the infectious single "Whenever, Wherever" (English version of "Suerte"), and for being one of the top albums of 2002. This was followed by a series of classic and successful singles, includin Wishin' and Hopin', Anyone Who Had a Heart, I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself, Stay Awhile and All Cried Out.

With a more rock-edged feel, Laundry Service was aimed at the international English market although it contained some Spanish songs. Her first single was I Only Want to Be With You, which was a success in both Britain and the United States. Shakira next turned her sights towards the English-speaking market, improving her English enough to begin writing Laundry Service. The Springfields travelled to Nashville, Tennessee. Dusty was so enamored of Motown, particularly the girl groups, that she left the Springfields to pursue a solo career in soul music. She became widely known throughout the entire Spanish speaking world. By 1962, the Springfields had some success in the United States with Silver Threads and Golden Needles. Shakira also produced Shakira MTV Unplugged, a live album based on ¿Dónde están los ladrones?. O'Brien took the name Dusty Springfield after forming the group, which soon became a popular act in Britain with singles such as Breakaway and Bambino.

Its successful blend of rock and Latin soundscapes made it an immense success. Later, she and her brother, Dion, and Tim Field formed The Springfields, a folk trio. It produced the singles "Inevitable" and the worldwide mega-hit, "Ojos así". Her first professional musical group was the Lana Sisters, who issued a few singles. It was a huge hit which gained wide critical acclaim and which many consider to be her best album ever. She was born in Hampstead, London as Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien, and was a fan of Peggy Lee from an early age. ¿Dónde están los ladrones? (Where are the Thieves?) was a huge production which cost over $3 million US. Dusty Springfield (April 16, 1939 – March 2, 1999) was a British singer, regarded by many as one of the finest white soul singers of all time.

Following this, Shakira met Emilio Estefan, Jr., who would become the executive producer of her next album. The Remixes was created and featured remixes from the songs on Pies descalzos. The hit "Estoy aquí" became known internationally. Shakira turned to acting and played a role in a Colombian telenovela ("El Oasis"), but returned to the music business in 1995 with the album Pies descalzos (Barefeet), which established her commercial success.

The album was only moderately successful, and Peligro (Danger), her second album, was no better received. She released her first album, Magia (Magic), one year later, on the Sony label. Shakira was born in Barranquilla to a Lebanese father and a Spanish-Italian mother, and moved to Bogotá at the age of thirteen. She speaks English, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, and Italian, and she can perform Arab belly dancing, which was taught by her Lebanese grandmother.
