Roselyn Sanchez

Her first musical recording "Borinqueña" will out in the market this year. She has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - for Motion Pictures, at 1612 Vine St, and for Television, at 1634 Vine St. She is going to play the principal part. She retired from acting, and died at her home in Ketchum, Idaho from heart failure. She is also in the process of composing a musical about a singer/dancer/actress who leaves Puerto Rico to hit the big time in New York. Her role as the neighbour of elderly sisters, played by Lillian Gish and Bette Davis, with romantic interest provided by Vincent Price, brought Sothern an Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination. Roselyn Sanchez has already participated in 16 movies and will be cast in the role of "Maria" in the Hollywood production "Edison", which will be out in the year 2005. Her final film role was in The Whales of August in 1987.

In 2003, she played the role of "Lorena" in the movie "Chasing Papi" starring alongside Jaci Velasquez and Sofia Vergara. She resumed working sporadically on television until the mid 1980s, including a television remake of her earlier success A Letter To Three Wives. In 2001, Roselyn was cast as "Isabella Molina", a secret customs agent who was Jackie Chan's love interest in the movie Rush Hour 2. In 1965 she was heard as the voice of the car in the series My Mother The Car. She played this character from 1996 to 1997. Both programs were very successful and earned Sothern four Emmy Award nominations, but a bout of hepatitis had left her with a bloated and overweight appearance, and she preferred not to be seen. She became the first hispanic to play a Latina character, in its' 50 year history, when she played the role of "Pilar Domingo". She was the lead in the series Private Secretary from 1953 until 1957, and The Ann Sothern Show from 1958 until 1959.

Roselyn returned to New York and landed her first English speaking role in the CBS soap opera, "As The World Turns". By the fifties she was rarely seen in films and was appearing regularly in television. In Puerto Rico, she gained public attention as a dancer and co-host of the island's #1 variety show "Que Vacilon". She appeared in A Letter to Three Wives in (1949) and the film earned her excellent reviews, but did not stimulate her career. In 1993, Roselyn won the Miss Puerto Rico Petite contest and in 1994 she won the international title of Miss America Petite. After years of trying, Sothern had her first real success, and a string of "Maisie" film sequels and radio plays took her through to the late forties. She landed a small part as an island girl in the movie "Captain Ron", starring Martin Short and Kurt Russell. In a role originally intended for Jean Harlow, Sothern was cast as "Maisie", a bold, brassy but somewhat scatter-brained showgirl who was also an amateur detective.

In 1992, she made her movie debut. After a string of films that failed to attract an audience, Sothern left RKO and was signed to MGM, making her first film for them in 1939. In 1991, at the age of 21, Roselyn moved to New York City, where she took classes in dancing, acting and singing. Born Harriette Arlene Lake in Valley City, North Dakota, Sothern began her film career as an extra in silent films in 1927. In 1934 she signed a contract with Columbia Pictures but after two years the studio released her from this contract, and she was signed by RKO Pictures in 1936. However, that was not her calling and after three years she called it quits. Ann Sothern (January 22, 1909 - March 15, 2001) was a American film actress. Roselyn enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico, where she was to study marketing, like her father and brothers before her.

She would put on shows for her family. At a young age she showed an interest in dancing and acting. She received her pirmary education in San Juan. She has three older brothers.

Roselyn lived with her father and mother and is the youngest of four siblings. Roselyn Sanchez (Born March 14, 1970), born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, is the first person to play a hispanic character in one the most important soap operas in the U.S..
