Rita Tushingham

. She served in the chamber as an Independent under her retirement in 2002. The Knack (and how to get it) was filmed in the Southam Street area of Notting Hill. In 1998 she was appointed to the Canadian Senate by Jean Chretien. She was an icon of 1960s Britain, and was popularised again in the 1980s by Morrissey. A Companion of the Order of Canada, she was the 1985 recipient of the Pearson Medal of Peace. She had memorable performances in The Leather Boys (1963), The Knack...And How to Get It (1965) and Doctor Zhivago (1965). From 1983 to 1989 she served co-director of the Ecumenical Forum of Canada and also served as a co-president of the World Council of Churches.

Her screen debut was in A Taste of Honey in 1961, the groundbreaking movie of the British realist tradition. She was ordained a United Church minister in 1965 and served in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Kingston, Ontario and Hamilton, Ontario. She was born on 14 March 1940 in Liverpool, and started her career as a stage actress at the Liverpool Playhouse. The Very Reverend Lois Miriam Wilson (born Lois Freeman, April 8, 1927) was the first female Moderator of the United Church of Canada from 1980 to 1982. Rita Tushingham is an English actress.
