Richard Gere

They have a son, Homer James Jigme Gere. His first major role was in Room at the Top, for which he received a Best Actor Oscar nomination. His present companion is Carey Lowell. He enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and from there moved to stage and film stardom. He was formerly married to supermodel Cindy Crawford. He grew up in Johannesburg, moving to London in 1946, at age 16.

His acting career took off in 1980 with the film American Gigolo. Born Laruschka Mischa Skikne in Joniskis, Lithuania, he immigrated to South Africa at the age of 5. He continued to perform in television, movies and theater throughout the 1970s. Laurence Harvey (October 1, 1928 - November 25, 1973) was a Lithuanian-born actor. He also pursued a professional trumpet career. Gere attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, but he left college after two years to pursue acting.

He graduated in 1967 from North Syracuse Central High School. In high school he excelled in gymnastics and music (he played the trumpet). Gere was born in Philadelphia. Gere is a well known Buddhist and an active supporter of the Dalai Lama.
