Porno for Pyros

Following the completion of the tour, Porno for Pyros went their separate ways. His nephew Eric West has a debut album being released in 2005 titled Half | Life. Other than being a sure crowd-pleaser, in retrospect it seems like a foreshadowing of the later Jane's Addiction reunion efforts. This genre is now called "Quiet Storm" after a radio programming format named for Robinson's biggest solo album title track, Quiet Storm.. It's interesting to note that on several tour stops, Porno for Pyros played Mountain Song, a popular Jane's tune. By this time, Robinson was a vice-president of Motown and he helped helm the label's shift towards an urban, contemporary soul sound. The band again set forth on a heavy touring schedule. They went on for a while, even having another hit. In 2001, the group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

The album also featured the post-Jane's reunion of Farell with guitarist Dave Navarro, who made a guest appearance on Freeway. Robinson left The Miracles in 1972. Ex-Minutemen bassist Mike Watt was brought in to finish up the album tracks, and join the band on tour. The group faltered somewhat in the early 1970s, though hits such as "The Tears of a Clown" (1970) still did quite well. For their follow up album, Good God's Urge, bass player Le Noble left the band after completing the lion's share of the bass tracks. Albums were released as "Smokey Robinson & the Miracles" after 1967. Unlike the relatively straight-ahead rock shows that were the hallmark of live Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros live shows relied heavily on props, extras, and special effects (including, but not limited to pyrotechnics). After marrying Claudette Rogers, a singer with The Miracles, Robinson started towards a solo career.

Following the album's release, Porno for Pyros continued a heavy touring schedule. Legendary singer and songwriter Bob Dylan described Robinson as "America's greatest living poet." Robinson's numerous hit ballads also earned him the title "America's poet laureate of love." Over the course of his almost 50-year career in music, Robinson has over 4,000 songs to his credit. The video for the album's first single Pets received heavy airplay on MTV. Later, Mary Wells and the Temptations had big hits with Robinson originals, "My Guy" (1964) and "My Girl" (also from 1964), respectively. Reaction to the album was mixed, with some fans ecstatic, and others disappointed. This was followed by "Mickey's Monkey" (1963), "I Gotta Dance to Keep From Crying", "I Second That Emotion" (1967), "The Love I Saw In You Was Just a Mirage", "Ooo Baby Baby", "Baby, Baby, Don't Cry", "The Tracks of My Tears" (1965) and "You Really Got a Hold on Me" (1962). By the time their debut album was released in 1993, the anticipation surrounding the project was enough to briefly drive the album to the #1 position on the Billboard top 20 list. The Motown song "Shop Around" (1960) was the first big hit for the Miracles.

Following the demise of the extremely successful Jane's Addiction project, frontman Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins formed Porno for Pyros after acquiring guitarist Peter DiStefano and bass player Martin Le Noble. Prior to releasing their eponymous first album, Porno for Pyros (named after the orgy of destruction that was the Los Angeles/Rodney King riots) embarked on a nation-wide tour to support their new band. The two men had a synergistic relationship, with Robinson providing a foundation for Motown's hit-making success and Gordy acting as a mentor for the budding singer and songwriter. Porno for Pyros is a US musical group and was Perry Farrell's and Stephen Perkins' next project after their former band Jane's Addiction. In the 1950s, Robinson met Berry Gordy, Jr., founder of Detroit's Motown Records, which became his label. Good God's Urge (1996). The group issued a few somewhat successful singles on End Records and Chess Records. Porno for Pyros (1993). In 1955, Robinson helped found the Miracles and became lead singer.
