Today O'Neal lives in New York City, where she works hard at staying sober as she struggled throughout her life with substance abuse problems, like her mother, her father, her brother actor Griffin O'Neal, and her half-brother Redmond, whose mother is Farrah Fawcett. In 2000, she married James Huggins and later that year had her first child Eloisa May. The book includes the unhappily ever after story of her marriage to the tempermental tennis star McEnroe, their divorce, and their struggle with child custody. She has appeared in a number of TV and theatrical movies since then, notably Carlito's Way in 1993.
