Patrick Dempsey

The couple has one child. He died in Lugano, Switzerland of kidney failure. He remarried in 1999, to actress Jill Fink. In the early 1970s, he retired to concentrate on linguistics and philosophy, on which he lectured and published a number of books. Dempsey divorced Rocky Parker in 1994. Worse, his American break ended before it began: he was signed to star with June Allyson in a remake of My Man Godfrey in 1956, but was replaced by David Niven when Fischer reportedly lost his memory during filming. Overall, Dempsey has participated in more than forty movies. While he enjoyed a great career, unlike countrymen Oskar Werner, Curd Jürgens, Maria Schell and Romy Schneider, he never made it internationally.

The movie, in which he played Ronald Miller, was a geek to popular type of comedy which launched him and co-star Amanda Peterson to teen idol status, and Dempsey and Peterson appeared constantly on the covers of such teen magazines as Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, [[16 {magazine}|16]], Bop and others. It wasn't until another 1987 release, Can't Buy Me Love, that he achieved major movie star status. Soon after, he married actress Rocky Parker, twenty seven years his senior.

This movie gave him some fame. In 1987, he participated in Meatballs 3, where he played a janitor, Rudy. In 1985, he debuted as an actor, in the movie Heaven Help Us. He was also an adept juggler, placing third in a National Juggling Competition.
