Paltrow gave birth to her first child, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, on May 13, 2004 with husband Chris Martin of the group Coldplay, whom she married in secret on 5 December 2003. She was previously engaged to Brad Pitt and dated Ben Affleck while both she and Affleck worked on Shakespeare in Love. She was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in Hinsdale, Illinois. Meredith Hoyt Monroe (born December 30, 1976) is an American actress best known as Andie McPhee on Dawson's Creek, from 1998 to 2000. She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress two years later for her performance in Shakespeare in Love (1998).

Her performance in Emma (1996) received its share of praise. Their relationship was much publicized, just like their break-up two years later. Born in Los Angeles, her debut film was Shout (1991) and she played in Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991) before starring in Se7en (1995) and dating her co-star Brad Pitt. Paltrow has a younger brother named Jake and is a cousin of actress Katherine Moennig.

She studied Art History at the University of California, Santa Barbara before committing herself to acting. She is the daughter of the late television producer and director Bruce Paltrow and the actress Blythe Danner. Although several of her most acclaimed performances were roles as English women (Emma, Sylvia and Shakespeare in Love) and she has a WASPy appearance, Paltrow is actually Scottish-Irish on her mother's side and Russian Jewish on her father's side.
