Martin Landau

Landau and Bain married in 1957 and divorced in 1993. He also had a daughter, Chiara Mastroianni, with his longtime mistress, the actress Catherine Deneuve; both were at his bedside when he died of pancreatic cancer. He has two daughters, Susan and Juliet, from his marriage to Space: 1999 (and Mission Impossible) co-star Barbara Bain. Mastroianni was married to the Italian actress Flora Carabella (1926-1999), who appeared in many films including "Lunatics and Lovers" and "A Night Full of Rain", from 1948 until his death; they had one child, Barbara. He was also nominated for Oscars for his roles in Tucker and Crimes and Misdemeanors. He followed that with another signature role, that of a frustrated, womanizing film director in Fellini's 8˝. After his successes in Mission: Impossible and Space: 1999, Landau moved on to a fruitful film career which included an Academy Award winning role as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood. He soon became a major international romantic star, starring in Big Deal on Madonna Street; and especially when Federico Fellini cast him in La Dolce Vita with Anita Ekberg in 1960.

Some of the actors he has coached include Jack Nicholson and Anjelica Huston. His film debut was in I Miserabili (from Victor Hugo's Les Misérables) in 1947. Encouraged by his mentor Lee Strasberg, Landau also taught acting. In 1945 he started working for a film company, and began taking acting lessons. He attended the Actor's Studio in the same class with Steve McQueen and in 1957, Landau made his Broadway debut in Middle of the Night. During World War II he was interned in a Nazi prison, but he escaped and hid in Venice. Landau was born in Brooklyn, New York, and at the age of 17 began working as a cartoonist for the New York Daily News, but influenced by Charlie Chaplin and the escapism of the cinema, he pursued becoming an actor. Born in Fontana Liri, a small village in the Apennines, Mastroianni grew up in Turin and Rome.

He is perhaps most well known for his roles in the television series Mission: Impossible (1966 - 1969) and Space: 1999 (1975 - 1977).
