Paltrow gave birth to her first child, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, on May 13, 2004 with husband Chris Martin of the group Coldplay, whom she married in secret on 5 December 2003. She is the daughter of the late television producer and director Bruce Paltrow and the actress Blythe Danner. Dubbed the "The Queen of Technicolor," she made her film debut in 1940 opposite Johnny Mack Brown, marking a career that saw her much loved by audiences, usually in adventure films as the beautiful damsel in distress. Although several of her most acclaimed performances were roles as English women (Emma, Sylvia and Shakespeare in Love) and she has a WASPy appearance, Paltrow is actually Scottish-Irish on her mother's side and Russian Jewish on her father's side. Her screen image was crafted as that of a hot-blooded Latin seductress, playing characters dressed in exotic costumes and sparking jewels.
