Judas Priest

In a television interview, Judas Priest members commented that if they wanted to insert subliminal commands in their music, killing their fans would be counterproductive, and they would prefer to insert the command "Buy more of our records.". In 1998, he released Living Dangerously, which included guests like Snoop Doggy Dogg and Long Beach Dub All-Stars. The suit was eventually dismissed on its merits, as the band had pointed out that if you were to play any song backwards and tell someone there was a message, it'll sound as though there actually is. In the 1990s, Levy continued to release periodic hits in Jamaica, and more rarely in the UK. The plaintiffs alleged a subliminal message of "do it" had been included in the song "Better by You Better Than Me" (from the Stained Class album) which triggered the suicide attempt. In 1993, Levy tried to breaking in the United States with Barrington, but Levy and his label, MCA Records, did not have a good relationship and he soon left. In 1990, the band was involved in a civil action that alleged they were responsible for the suicide attempts in 1985 of two Nevada boys (James Vance and Ray Belknap). The late 1980s saw Levy, now in his twenties, slow down his output, though he continued to perform and record until 1988.

John Ellis - drums (1969-1971). Levy returned to LPs with Lifestyle and Money Move, followed by a British hit album called Here I Come; Levy received Best Vocalist at the British Reggae Awards. Alan 'Skip' Moore - drums (1971-1973, 1975-1977). Taking a break from albums, Levy then released a series of hit singles, including "Mary Long Tongue", "In the Dark", "Too Poor", "I Have a Problem", "Even Tide Fire a Disaster", "I'm Not in Love", "You Have It", "Love of Jah", "Under Mi Sensi", "Tomorrow Is Another Day", "Robberman", Black Rose", "My Woman" and "Money Move". Chris 'Congo' Campbell - drums (1972-1973). By 1980's Robin Hood, Levy was one of the biggest Jamaican stars, and saw his international fame growing as well, especially in England. John Hinch - drums (1973-1975). Though LPs were not terribly important in Jamaica at the time, Levy released three albums before 1980: Bounty Hunter, Shine Eye Gal (United Kingdom) and Englishman, a critically acclaimed record.

Simon Phillips - drums (1977). Levy then recorded several duets with Toyan, Jah Thomas and Trinity, and memorably appeared at Reggae Sunsplash in 1980 and 1981. Les Binks - drums (1977-1979). Levy's next few singles were similarly successful, including "Shine Eye Girl", "Wicked Intention", "Jumpy Girl", "Skylarking" (by Horace Andy), "Disco Music", "Reggae Music", "Never Tear My Love Apart", "Jah", "You Made Me So Happy" and "When You're Young and in Love". Dave Holland - drums (1979-1989). Soon, Levy met Junjo Lawes and Hyman Wright, both record producers, and recording several singles with the Roots Radics, including "Al Yah We Deh", "Looking My Love", "Englishman", "Wedding Ring Aside" and "Collie Weed", all of which became hits and established Levy's career. Alan Atkins - vocals (1967-1973). Levy established his solo career the next year with "A Long Time Since We Don't Have No Love"; though the single was a failure, the fourteen year old was a popular performer at Jamaican dancehalls.

Tim 'Ripper' Owens - vocals (1996 - 2003). He was born in Clarendon, Jamaica and soon formed a band with his cousin, Everton Dacres, called the Mighty Multitude; the pair released "My Black Girl" in 1977. Scott Travis - drums (1989 - present). Barrington Levy (born April 30, 1964) is a reggae and dancehall musician. Ian Hill - bass guitars (1969 - present). Downing - guitars (1969 - present).

K.K. Glenn Tipton - guitars (1974 - present). Rob Halford - vocals (1973-1991, and from 2003 onwards). A new studio album, named Angel of Retribution was released on March 1st, 2005 (U.S)(on Sony Music/Epic Records) and a global tour in support of the album is currently underway.

After more than twelve years apart, Judas Priest and original lead vocalist Rob Halford announced in July 2003 that they were reunited, with a hugely successful live concert tour having taken place in 2004. Judas Priest have released fifteen studio albums to date, the first being Rocka Rolla in 1974 and the latest being Angel of Retribution in 2005. These events were the inspiration for the film Rock Star, although Owens did not actually participate in the production of the movie. Halford left the band in the 1990s and was replaced by Tim 'Ripper' Owens, who was plucked from obscurity having previously sung in a Judas Priest tribute band.

Overall, the band has sold in excess of 35 million albums globally. Judas Priest's 1980 album British Steel was perhaps the first heavy metal album to be recorded in a concise format with radio-friendly songs with pop hooks, pioneering an approach used by others (Quiet Riot, Dokken, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister, Accept, Def Leppard) to taste commercial success.
