Although regarded as a capable and popular film actress, it was for her contributions to television that Dru was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Chuck Jones said of her: "June Foray is not the female Mel Blanc. Her film career began to fade by the end of the 1950s but she continued working frequently in television. Squirrel (Rocky). She later lamented that she had been typecast in western films, commenting that once an actress became typecast, that was the end, and adding that she had never liked horses. Most recognizable, though, is her work for Jay Ward: she played nearly every female on The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, including Natasha Fatale and Nell Fenwick, and (against sex) Rocket J.

She also gave a well received performance in the drama film All the King's Men (1949). She appeared on the Smurfs, George of the Jungle, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas; she was the voice of the original "Chatty Cathy" doll, and is a voice on the Disney attraction "Pirates of the Caribbean" as the wife of the man getting dunked ("Don't tell him, Carlos!"). Over the next decade she appeared frequently in films, most often cast in westerns such as the John Wayne films Red River (1948) and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949). For Walt Disney, she played "Lucifer the Cat" in the feature film Cinderella; she did a variety of voices in Walter Lantz's Woody Woodpecker cartoons; for Warner Brothers she was Granny, owner of Tweety and Sylvester, and, memorably, a series of witches including Witch Hazel for Chuck Jones. Dru was spotted by a talent scout and made her first film appearance in Abie's Irish Rose in 1946. In the 1940s she began film work as well, including a few appearances acting in live action movies, but mostly doing voice overs for animated cartoons. During this time Dru met and married the popular singer Dick Haymes and when they moved to Hollywood she found work in theater. Two years later she moved to Los Angeles, California, and soon became a popular voice actress on radio there, including on the national programs of Jimmy Durante and Danny Thomas.

Born Joanne Letitia LaCock in Logan, West Virginia, Dru came to New York City in 1940, and after finding employment as a model, was chosen by Al Jolson to appear in the cast of his Broadway show Hold Onto Your Hats. Foray was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, where her voice was first broadcast in a local radio drama when she was 12 years of age; by age of 15 she was doing regular radio voice work. Joanne Dru (January 31, 1922 – September 10, 1996) was an American film actress. June Foray (born September 18, 1917) is an extremely versatile voice actor who has worked for most of the studios which produced animated films since the 1940s.
