Alison Moyet's latest album, Voice, was released on 6 September 2004 and entered the UK charts at #7. After her marriage ended, Ryan began a relationship with "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Star Trek: Enterprise" executive producer Brannon Braga. Hometime launched Moyet into the top 5 best-selling female UK artists of 2002 and resulted in a BRIT nomination for Best Female Vocal.

This information led Jack Ryan to withdraw his Republican candidacy for an open United States Senate seat in Illinois. In August 2002, after years of holding our and refusing to compromise, Moyet was finally released from her Sony contract. Moyet signed to Sanctuary Records and released her first studio album in eight years, Hometime, an album which Sony had refused to release. They revealed that she had accused Ryan of attempting to coerce her into sexual acts in public and in adult clubs. 2001 also saw the release of The Essential Alison Moyet CD, and in 2002 'The Essential Alison Moyet' DVD was released. In 2004, details of her divorce proceedings with Jack Ryan were unsealed by a California judge. She played the part of Matron ‘Mama’ Morton, and although initially planned to be a short run, Moyet enjoyed the experience so much that the run was extended to 6 months. The reasons behind their divorce were kept sealed. Moyet also made her critically acclaimed stage debut in the West End musical Chicago in 2001.

Throughout their marriage, Ryan and her husband took turns commuting between Los Angeles and Chicago for their careers, but finally divorced in 1999. During this time, however, Moyet recorded vocals for Tricky, Ocean Colour Scene, The Lightning Seeds and King Britt. She married Jack Ryan and they had a son, Alex in 1994. Due to prolonged litigation with Sony, during which time Moyet refused to record a radio-friendly 'pop' album for the sake of creating chart hits, Moyet did not release a new studio album for over 8 years since the release of Essex. In 1990, while dealing blackjack at a charity event, Ryan met investment banker and future political candidate Jack Ryan. Following incredible CD success and a UK tour, 'Singles' was re-issued as a double CD set which included "No Overdubs", a bonus live CD. Upon re-issue "Singles" again charted, this time in the top 20. Ryan has recently appeared in movies such as Down With Love. "Singles" (Alison Moyet's ‘greatest hits’ CD), was released in 1995 and entered the UK charts at #1.

The show was cancelled in 2004. In order for the album to be released her label (now Sony) required that certain Essex tracks be re-recorded and re-produced, and that there be additional material remixed to create a more 'commercial' package. She played Ronnie Cooke, a frustrated lawyer who quits to become a high-school teacher. Her album "Essex" (1994) did not see the light of day as Moyet had originally intended for it to be heard. Kelley, producer of Boston Public, wrote a role specifically for her. Despite having spawned the Grammy nominated single 'It Won't Be Long', "Hoodoo" marked the beginning of what was to become a long fight for Moyet to secure complete control of her artistic direction. David E. "Hoodoo", which was a far earthier and more personal album than Moyet had previously released, received little label support and only minimal promotion.

After Voyager ended in 2001, Ryan already had a new series. Following a period of personal and career evaluation "Hoodoo" was released in 1991. The role drew her instant fame and her wardrobe made her a sex symbol among science-fiction fans. "Raindancing" spawned further hit singles, including: 'Ordinary Girl' and a cover of Floy Joy's 'Weak In The Presence of Beauty'. In 1997, Ryan was cast to play Seven of Nine, a Borg drone freed from the collective on the science fiction series Star Trek: Voyager. In 1986 Alison had another big UK hit with the single 'Is This Love?', followed in 1987 by the album "Raindancing". Her big break came when she won a regular role as an extraterrestrial investigator named Juliet Stuart on the TV show Dark Skies. The show was cancelled after one season, but the role drew the attention of the science-fiction community for her beauty. In 1985 Moyet performed at the Live Aid concert, along side Paul Young.

She continued to act in commercials and eventually TV shows like Melrose Place, Matlock, and The Sentinel as well as TV movies like Co-Ed Call Girl. "Alf" spawned 3 hit singles, including 'Invisible' and 'All Cried Out'. She moved there and made her first acting debut as an extra in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but was cut out of the final version. This was a big success in Britain, reaching number one in the album charts. Her husband encouraged her and even gave her a plane ticket to Los Angeles. In 1984 she released her debut album Alf (titled after her punk-era nickname). After college, Ryan decided to pursue her dream of an acting career. In 1983 Yazoo split and Moyet signed to CBS (because it had been Janis Joplin's label) and began her solo career.
