Media reports indicated that she was in fact suffering the effects of nerve damage to her back, caused by a stunt during the filming of Alias. Jean Harlow is portrayed by Gwen Stefani in the recent film "The Aviator.". Garner is known for performing her own stunts, and in January 2005 she was forced to bow out of some publicity duties for her film Elektra due to what was first thought to have been a viral infection. She died shortly afterward at the age of 26, and is buried at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, in Los Angeles, California. She enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking and kickboxing (a hobby inspired by her character on Alias). While filming Saratoga (1937) with Clark Gable, she was hospitalized with uremic poisoning and kidney failure, a result from scarlet fever she suffered from during childhood. She married Scott Foley (who played her love interest on Felicity) in 2000, but separated and filed for divorce in 2003 and began dating her Alias co-star Michael Vartan, though in the summer of 2004 she was romantically linked with her Daredevil co-star Ben Affleck. They were engaged for two years, but before they could marry Jean became ill.

She currently stars as the character of Sydney Bristow in the TV show Alias. Following the end of her third marriage she met MGM star William Powell. After realizing that she loved the stage more than science, she changed her major to drama. Secretary (1936). She studied ballet for nine years before enrolling as a chemistry major at Denison University. Jean then starred in two more films with Clark Gable, China Seas (1935), and Wife vs. Although Garner was born in Texas, her father's engineering job with Union Carbide (now a part of Dow Chemical) took the family to Charleston, West Virginia when she was three years old, and she lived in Charleston until she left for college. She was also married in 1933 for a short time to cinematographer Harold Rosson.
