Jacqueline Bisset

Bisset, who is known as a good autograph signer who even personalises her signature if fans ask her to, has never been married, but she has had a number of well publicized relationships with men. Tia Carrere divorced her husband Elie Samaha in February of 2000; she married again, this time to photojournalist Simon Wakelin on December 31, 2002. The movie, a biographical story about Robert Kennedy, will be released shortly. In August of 2003, Carrere was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and she is reportedly working on a new album in her home studio. A role she has become familiar with, first in TV and most recently in cinema movies, is the character of Jacqueline Kennedy. In 1993 her first solo album, Dream, was released, and went platinum in the Philippines. Besides in movies, Bisset has played in many TV films, especially during the last 10 years, some of these films having been quite successful. Carrere has continued to nurture her singing career.

Several of her movies are French or Italian productions. People magazine, in 1992, named her to its annual "50 most beautiful people" list. During her career, Bisset has been in movies directed by such stars as François Truffaut, John Huston, George Cukor and Roman Polanski, among others. A striking Asian beauty, Carrere modelled nude for the January 2003 issue of Playboy magazine; years before, however, she had used a body double for a nude scene in Showdown in Little Tokyo. In 1996, she was nominated for a Cesar Award, France's version of the Oscars, for her role in La Ceremonie. Most recently, Carrere provided the voice of Lilo's sister "Nani" in the animated film Lilo and Stitch (2002) and its spinoffs. In 1978 she had already earned her first nomination for Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?. The syndicated series lasted for a total of three television seasons before its cancellation.

Soon thereafter she played in the movies Rich and Famous with Candice Bergen, and Under The Volcano with Albert Finney, which was made in 1984 and gave her a Golden Globe award nomination. From 1999 to 2002, Tia Carrere starred as archaeology professor Sydney Fox in Relic Hunter, an action-adventure series reminiscent of the Indiana Jones films. At the time, Newsweek magazine declared her to be "the most beautiful film actress of all time". Other roles in prominent films followed her role in Wayne's World, however, including the part of villain Juno Skinner in True Lies (a 1994 Arnold Schwarzenegger action film) and secretary Victoria Chapell in High School High (a 1996 parody). In 1977, Bisset made great strides towards becoming a better known entertainer in North America with her movie The Deep, co-starring Robert Shaw, where her appearance swimming underwater wearing only a t-shirt made many to credit her with beginning a world wide revolution that led to a "wet T-shirt contest craze". On November 22, 1992, Carrere married Italian/Lebanese producer Elie Samaha, and she has appeared in several of his films - none of which have achieved widespread success. In 1973, she participated in Francois Truffaut's movie Day for Night, where she earned the respect of European critics and movie goers as a serious actress. She also turned down a role in the series Baywatch to audition for "Wayne's World.".

Then, she was cast opposite Steve McQueen in Bullit. A trained singer, Carrere performed all of her own songs in the two films, and the "Wayne's World" soundtrack features her vocals. In 1968, Mia Farrow, who was having personal problems, dropped out of a movie named The Detective, and her job was given to Bisset instead. She emerged into the public spotlight when cast as Cassandra, a rock singer and love interest of Mike Myers' character Wayne, in Wayne's World (1992) - a role she reprised the next year in Wayne's World 2. Next, she participated in the James Bond spoof Casino Royale, playing the character of "Miss Goodthighs". Her character was dropped after one episode, and was never mentioned again. After playing in a few small roles, in 1967 Bisset was cast for the movie Two for the Road, which became a critically acclaimed effort for her. Unfortunately, her General Hospital obligations prevented her from joining the team.

She had taken ballet lessons as a young child, and now began taking acting lessons, and fashion modelling to pay for those lessons. During this time, she also had a guest appearance on The A-Team, which was supposed to lead to her joining the cast. After her parents divorced, she moved in to help her mother. Following this initial success, Carrere relocated to Los Angeles and, after several months working as a model, landed a role in the daytime soap opera General Hospital from 1985-87. When Bisset was a teenager, her mother was diagnosed with disseminating sclerosis. Although she was eliminated during the first round of her 1985 Star Search appearance at the age of 17, she was spotted by the parents of a local producer while shopping at a Waikiki grocery store and was cast in the role of Lani in Aloha Summer. Her French mother taught her fluent French which prompted many to erroneously believe she was born in France. Born Althea Rae Duhinio Janairo, Carrere, of mixed Spanish, Chinese, and Filipino heritage, longed to be a singer as a child.
