According to the legend, this mistake was considered too embarrassing to correct. He began playing bass with the rock band Dogstar, who have now gone "into hibernation". There is an urban legend that Palance liked Marisa Tomei so much that in 1992 he announced her as an Oscar winner for her part in My Cousin Vinny while there actually was another name on his note. True to his Buddhist teachings, he does not have (by 'Hollywood' standards) many possessions and keeps his life uncluttered. During World War II, Palance, a bomber pilot, crash and received severe burns that led to extensive facial surgery, resulting in his gaunt, pinched face. Independent of speculation Keanu is reported to be very generous with his time and money, lending both to a variety of causes. He took a significant amount of the profits from his Matrix series and treated the hard-working special-effects crew to motorcycles, among other things.

His father is Asian American of Chinese and Hawaiian descent and his mother is English.

Born in Beirut, Lebanon, his first name means "cool breeze over the mountains" in Hawaiian. Although currently working in the United States, Reeves is a Canadian citizen and an avid ice hockey player/fan who was his High School team's MVP.
