Jaci Velasquez

Velasquez appeared at the December 2003 issue of Right On! Magazine, where editor Cynthia Horner called her, among other things, a true role model to teens. In 2003, she was listed in The Observer as one of the 50 funniest people in British comedy. After remaining on the public light, Velasquez was given a chance, in 2002, to act in her first Hollywood movie. Chasing Papi, which stars her, Sofia Vergara, Puerto Rico's Roselyn Sanchez and Eduardo Verastegui, was released nationwide in the United States in April of 2003. She was awarded the OBE in 1997. After that, Velasquez was able to achieve the crossover appeal she desired, building a fan base among hispanics as well as Americans. She has starred in several series of her own, including:. In 1998, she was signed over by Sony Latin and introduced to Rudy Perez, who had helped the careers of José Luis Rodríguez El Puma, Jose Feliciano and Julio Iglesias, among others. It was while on the road that she was discovered by a representative of Myrrh Records. Wood married magician Geoffrey Durham in March 1980, but they separated in October 2002. When she was ten years old, her parents sold their Houston home and dedicated themselves to touring the United States with their Christian music. Her sitcom Dinnerladies in particualar is often regarded along with The Royle Family as one of the prime example of dialogue-based TV comedy, shows in which the focus is more on discussion between characters than story or action, though Dinnerladies episodes usually did have a strong storyline also. Velasquez grew up attending church, and her parents were singers. Wood is often regarded as among the top sitcom writers in Britain due to her understanding of British culture and high command of the English language.
