Howard Rollins

He had been diagnosed with the condition approximately six weeks earlier. He married actress Sandra Jenkins in 1998. Rollins died in 1996 after complications from lymphoma. He has been considered for and lost out on a number of major roles including Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and The X-Files. He is best remembered for his role of Virgil Tibbs on the In the Heat of the Night television series. Since the cancellation of Hercules, he has been playing the starring role of Captain Dylan Hunt in Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda. Howard Ellsworth Rollins Jr. (October 17, 1950 - December 8, 1996) was an African American actor. Born in Mound, Minnesota and educated at then-Moorhead State University he worked as a model for print and television advertising before landing the role of Hercules in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
