The Civic also won the North American Car of the Year and the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) Car of the Year awards for 2006. All remaining amenities re-opened at the scheduled time on October 25, 2005. The Civic Si was named "Best New Sport Car" and the sedan was named "Best New Economy Car" in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards. The Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Downtown Disney re-opened at 1:00pm. Honda claimed 5 of the top 10 Greenest car slots, 3 of which were models of the Civic. As a result of Hurricane Wilma, all the four theme parks, Typhoon Lagoon water park (Blizzard Beach water park already being closed for maintenance), resort amenities (Downtown Disney, the golf courses) and Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground were closed at the start of October 24, 2005. The Civic GX, a natural gas version of the vehicle was named Greenest Car of 2005 by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. [1].

The Civic has been on Car and Driver magazine's annual Ten Best list six times, in 1985, 1988 through 1991, and 1996. The parks were closed for each. The Civic was Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year for 1980, as well as its 2006 Car of the Year award. Hurricanes Charley and Frances came through the area in summer 2004. However, the use of this McPherson strut layout in the European model is inappropriate for a sporty use, while the 1.8 L engine, while more powerful than most 1.6 L version from previous generations, lacks the peaky behavior of the high-revving VTEC engines from the VTi/Type-R versions. The parks re-opened the following day under heightened security. Finally, a reengineered MacPherson strut front, and multi-link rear suspension allows the 2006 Civic Si to achieve 0.90 G avg of lateral acceleration on the skidpad. The parks closed partway through the day on September 11, 2001 in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.

Moreover, this new engine is matted to a 6-speed transmission with a helical-type limited slip differential. The Walt Disney Company made history by closing its Florida theme parks for the first time during Hurricane Floyd in 1999, which ended up missing the area. This newest generation of the Civic Si offers a 197 hp (147 kW) K20Z3 powered engine, utilizing drive by wire throttle, electric power steering, and a balance shaft. The trade magazine "American Business" reports (as quoted by the Orlando Sentinel) these attendance figures for the four theme parks in 2004:. Paradoxically, the North American 2006 Civic Si concept strongly indicated that the Civic line would see a return to sportiness and performance, while the European Civic has become a more family oriented automobile. The most recent models, while still competitive as tuner projects, have succumbed to added weight, reduced suspension technology and higher centres of gravity which has significantly reduced their appeal amongst passionate drivers. The Annual Passes at Walt Disney World allow guests to have unlimited access to the parks during the year time period of their pass. Also, many fourth, fifth, and sixth-generation Civics can be similarly upgraded by replacing their original economy-oriented engines with a DOHC VTEC engine — commonly one of the B-series engines such as a B16A, which was also original equipment in some performance models of the Civic. As part of the "Magic Your Way" package, Disney also created a service entitled "Disney's Magical Express" whereby guests staying on the Disney property will be able to take Disney transportation directly from the Orlando airport to their hotels, while their luggage is picked up (with participating airlines) and delivered to their rooms for them. The City Turbo engine is a good fit to the Civic engine bay in many models, and provides a significant increase in the power-to-weight ratio compared to the non-performance engines, thus boosting performance. The Water Park Fun & More Option was known as the Magic Plus Pack Option from January 2, 2005, through October 1, 2005. Also, because of parts interchangeability, many Civics which were originally equipped with lower-power engines can later be equipped with a newer Honda engine, or many other upgrades. "Magic Your Way" also offers options such as the Park Hopper Option ($40 per ticket, allowing a guest to visit more than one park per day), the Water Park Fun & More Option ($50 per ticket, giving a guest between 2 and 5 visits to water parks, Pleasure Island, DisneyQuest, or Disney's Wide World of Sports), and the No Expiration Option (between $10 for a two-day ticket and $135 for a ten-day ticket, without which the ticket will expire 14 days after its first use).

As well, advanced four-wheel independent suspension inspired by Honda's racing research allowed class-leading handling in the 1988-1991 series which continued on until the 2000 model update. Disney's "Magic Your Way" park ticket pricing, introduced in January 2005, is intended to make guests choose to spend more days on Disney property instead of visiting competing theme parks in the area; additional days at Disney can be much less expensive than a day at another park. Civics prior to the fifth and sixth generation had a high power-to-weight ratio and a higher hp-to-liter output compared to many of their direct competitors which allowed for naturally better acceleration, braking and handling given similar parts. She replied, "I think Walt would have approved.". In many areas, the Civic is popular as a platform for modification and customization by an enthusiast community. On opening day, Roy Disney gave an opening dedication, after which he asked Walt's widow Lillian what she thought of Walt Disney World. Some current generation Civics use VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control), and are approaching the size and weight of the early Honda Accord models, which were initially introduced as a larger, upmarket alternative to the Civic in the mid 1970s. Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian Resort, and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground were also completed in time for the park's opening on October 1, 1971.

This engine was a rare example of commercial development of a stratified charge engine. Construction of drainage canals was soon begun by the Improvement District, and Disney built the first roads and the Magic Kingdom. This design could meet clean air emission standards without the power robbing emission control devices fitted to many cars of that time. The Florida Supreme Court ruled in 1968 that the District was allowed to issue tax-exempt bonds for public projects within the district, despite the sole beneficiary being The Walt Disney Company. An interesting engine development used in some 1975 to 1983 models as well as all carbureted models through 1987 was the CVCC system, where a small auxilary inlet valve allowed a rich fuel/air mixture into the cylinder near the spark plug, while the main charge was lean. The laws forming the District and the two Cities was signed into law on May 12, 1967. The 2006 model year standard Civics for North America are manufactured in Alliston, Ontario, Canada and East Liberty, Ohio, while the Hybrid version is manufactured in Japan. The only areas where the District had to submit to the county and state would be property taxes and elevator inspections.

In North America, the Civic hatchback was dropped for 2006, mainly due to the upcoming arrival of the Honda Fit. In addition to the standard powers of an incorporated city, which include tax-free bonds, the Improvement District would have total immunity from any current or future county or state land-use laws. Accordingly, all instances of the current model (left or right hand drive, anywhere in the world) are British-made cars designed with Japanese engineering, except for the US-built two-door coupe. After the film, it was explained that, for Walt Disney World to succeed, a special district would have to be formed: the Reedy Creek Improvement District with two cities inside it, the City of Bay Lake and the City of Reedy Creek (now the City of Lake Buena Vista). Starting in 2002, the Civic three-door hatchback has been built exclusively at Honda's manufacturing plant in Swindon, England - previously the five-door "Civic"/Domani and the Civic Aerodeck (based on the Japanese Orthia) were built in this plant for sale in Europe along with the Japanese EK series Civics. In Canada, the sixth and seventh generation Civics where mildly redesigned to create the Acura EL until the advent of the eight generation Civic, which was used to create the Acura CSX. The seventh-generation minivan model is called the Honda Stream or the Honda Civic Stream. In his own words: "Everyone has heard of the Ford cars. For the past few years that the project had been in pre-production, it had been known simply as Disney World, but Roy Disney added "Walt" to the name to make it Walt Disney World. In Thailand, the Civic was available as the four-door Isuzu Vertex (1995-2000). From then on, his brother Roy Disney headed the project.

The Honda Domani, an upscale model based on the Civic, was sold as the Isuzu Gemini in Japan (1992-2000), and confusingly the 5-door Domani was sold as the Honda Civic (along with the "real" EK Civics) in Europe from 1995 to 2000. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966. Also, at various times, the Civic or Civic-derived models have been sold by marques other than Honda — for example, Rover sold the 200, 400 and 45, each of which were Civic-based at some point (first 200s were the second generation Ballade; from 1990 the 200 and 400 were based on the Concerto; the 400 was the 1995 Domani), as was their predecessor, the Triumph Acclaim, based on the first Honda Ballade. To create the District, only the support of the landowners within was required. Other models have been built off the Civic platform, including the Ballade, the CR-X, Quint, Concerto, Domani, CR-X Del Sol, and the Integra. The Reedy Creek Drainage District was incorporated on May 13, 1966 under Florida State Statutes Chapter 298, which gives powers including eminent domain to special Drainage Districts. A five-door station wagon model called the Civic Shuttle (also Civic Pro in Japan) was available from the early to late 1980s until the early 1990s (this brand name would later be revived for the mid-1990s Honda Shuttle people carrier, known in some markets as the Honda Odyssey). At the conference, Walt Disney explained the plans for the site, including EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, which was to be a futuristic city.

In Europe and the United States, "Civic" generically refers to any of the coupe, sedan or hatchback models, though in Europe the coupe is branded the "Civic Coupe". A press conference was soon organized for November 15. In Japan, the hatchback Civic is just called "Civic" while the sedan model is called "Civic Ferio" - however with the current release of the new Civic in Japan only in sedan form, this naming convention has stopped. After most of the land had been bought, the story was leaked to the Orlando Sentinel on October 20, 1965. While the Civic is sold in largely the same form worldwide, differences in the name of the models exist between markets. Without the transfer of these rights, Tufts could come in at any time and demand the removal of buildings to obtain minerals. A 350 Watt, seven speaker sound system is also included. Yet another problem was the mineral rights to the land, owned by Tufts College.

It produces 197 hp (200 PS/147 kW), 57 more than the Civic sedan. In most cases, the owners were happy to get rid of the land, being mostly swampland. The engine is a 2.0-liter, DOHC four-cylinder design with Honda's i-VTEC variable valve timing system. Much of the land had been platted into five-acre (20,000 m²) lots in 1912 by the Munger Land Company and sold to investors. It offers a more powerful engine, 6-speed manual transmission, sport seats, and different styling. In addition to three huge parcels of land were many smaller parcels, referred to as "outs". The American market Civic Si is a special trim level designed to offer a sportier experience than the standard Civic. Two large tracts totaling $1.5 million were sold, and smaller tracts of flatlands and cattle pastures were purchased by exotic-sounding companies such as the Latin-American Development and Management Corporation and the Reedy Creek Ranch Corporation.

The Sport Hatchback is also available with a 2.2 L I-CTDI Diesel engine from the Accord, F-RV and CRV, rated at 140 PS (138 hp/103 kW) and is capable of 205 km/h (127 mph) and accelerating from 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds. In May 1965, major land transactions were being recorded a few miles southwest of Orlando in Osceola County. This model featured from launch a 1.3 L I-DSI and a 1.8 L i-VTEC rated at 83 PS (81 hp/61 kW) and 140 PS (138 hp/103 kW) respectively, with 177 and 207 km/h (110 and 129 mph) top speeds and 14.2 and 8.6 sec 0-100 km/h sprint. The first five-acre (20,000 m²) lot was bought on October 23, 1964 by the Ayefour Corporation (a pun on Interstate 4). The new Sport Hatchback model with futuristic styling was unveiled in August 2005 for the European market only. To avoid a burst of land speculation, Disney used various dummy corporations and cooperative individuals to acquire 27,400 acres (111 km²) of land. The electric motors are powered by a battery array which is charged by regenerative braking during deceleration, which reduces exhaust emissions and extends fuel mileage. Thus everything was to be done in complete secrecy.

The hybrid version became available in 2003, which uses both a small (1.3 L) main gasoline engine and auxiliary electric motors. If the news of Disney's new resort was leaked, land prices would soar. The interior of the Type-R includes Recaro seats and a Momo steering wheel, and the model also includes Type-R-specific badging, a helical limited-slip differential, and has been reported to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about 6.8 seconds (6.6 in facelifted model). However, the decision had not been made yet; no land had been purchased. The EP Civic Type-R has a specific output of 200 PS (197 hp/147 kW) at 8000 rpm, a six-speed manual transmission, a reworked exterior with a bullet-like hatchback design, aeroform bumpers, spoiler, and 17 in wheels. When later asked why he chose it, he said, "the freeway routes, they bisect here.". Unlike the EK9 version, which was produced solely in Japan, the EP Civic Type-R is produced in the United Kingdom and exported to Japan. He saw the good road network, including Interstate 4 and Florida's Turnpike, with McCoy Air Force Base, soon to become Orlando International Airport, to the east, and immediately fell in love with the site.

In 2001, Honda announced the release of the Civic Type-R for the EP chassis, a more sporty variant of the most recent model of Civic and successor to the EK9 Civic Type-R. The airplane he travelled in would be used by future Disney executives to travel to the Resort from the company headquarters in Burbank, California and can now be seen at the Disney-MGM Studios. The EK9-generation Civic Type-R had a maximum output in the range of 180 PS JIS (177 hp/132 kW), increased over the more common 160 PS (158 hp/118 kW) B16A engine in the SiR/VTi models, and included various alterations to the chassis to improve handling and reduce weight (such as better welding of the frame, and removal of the radio and noise-suppressing materials). Walt Disney first flew over the Orlando site (one of many) on November 22, 1963. Beginning in 1997 [1], Honda produced the first iteration of Civic to receive the "Type-R" appellation (applied first to the Integra Type-R), with the EK9 chassis Civic Type-R. Additionally, Walt Disney disliked the businesses that had sprung up around Disneyland, and wanted control of a much larger area of land for the new project. The Civic evolved from having a 1335 cc engine (1980) to having engines with larger capacities and more creature comforts (air conditioning, power windows, etc.) through the 1990s and into the 2000s. Market surveys revealed that only 2% of Disneyland's visitors came from east of the Mississippi River, where 75% of the population of the United States lived.

Like the Mini, the transaxle was integrated with the engine unit, but driveshaft technology in the Civic was well ahead of the universal joints of the Mini. In 1959, the Walt Disney Company, under the leadership of Walt Disney, began looking for land for a second resort to supplement Disneyland, which had opened in Anaheim in 1955. Later models went to a five-speed manual and a full four-speed automatic transmission. Walt Disney World pastry chefs use more than 1,050 pounds of honey, 100 pounds of sugar, and 50 pounds of dark chocolate to bake gingerbread houses and other decorations for the holidays. Initially the Civic was sold with either a four-speed manual or a two speed "HondaMatic" model. According to Disney's "MouseMail" email newsletter: during the Christmas season, one hundred fifty truckloads of holiday decorations adorn the Walt Disney World Resort and 300,000 yards of ribbon and bows drape over 1,500 Christmas trees. . Another quarter has been set aside as a wilderness preserve.

Still, many regard the Civic as representing a good value for the money, combining good performance, reliability and economy, as well as a very low rate of depreciation, resulting in a low total cost per mile or per year. Less than one-quarter of the property has been developed. The current Civic has become somewhat more luxurious. Walt Disney World Resort covers a total of 47 square miles (122km²), about the size of San Francisco or twice the size of Manhattan. There are two miniature golf courses: Fantasia Gardens and Winter Summerland. The five 18-hole golf courses are the Magnolia, the Palm, Lake Buena Vista, Eagle Pines, and Osprey Ridge (the last two are part of the Bonnet Creek Golf Club). The non-themed hotels are owned by private, non-Disney hospitality companies such as Starwood, Holiday Inn, and Hilton. Another notable aspect is the large number of hotel resort complexes on the Walt Disney World property. The Downtown Disney area contains many shopping, dining, and entertainment venues, including DisneyQuest (a "virtual theme park" inside a building), the House of Blues, and a permanent Cirque du Soleil show (La Nouba). There are also two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach (a third, River Country, is permanently closed), as well as the Disney's Wide World of Sports athletic complex.

The official symbol, however, can still be found in many places around the Walt Disney World Resort, as well as in recent merchandise that uses it once again. Walt Disney World put an end to use of both its original font and official symbol at the conclusion of Walt Disney World's 25th Anniversary Celebration in 1996. However Walt Disney did make reference to the Walt Disney World Resort as both "Disney World" and "The Disney World", with both of these versions using the same font that was used in the spelling of Disneyland. There is no official documentation showing that the Walt Disney World Resort was originally to be spelled "Disneyworld", for it was already going to be far different than "Disneyland". Walt Disney focused most of his attention on the "Florida Project" both before and after his participation at the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair, but died in December of 1966, almost five years short of seeing his vision realized.

Much later, concepts from the original idea of EPCOT would be integrated into the community of Celebration, Florida. EPCOT became EPCOT Center, the second theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort. However plans for EPCOT would drastically change after Walt Disney's death. EPCOT was also known as Progress City.

There was also to be of course various housing for guests to the resort, along with an industrial park, main resort terminal, and a futuristic airport, but most importantly was Walt Disney's "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow", or EPCOT as it is better known with respect as an acronym. Walt Disney originally envisioned what would eventually become the Walt Disney World Resort as a resort that would have a Magic Kingdom somewhat larger and more elaborate than the Magic Kingdom of Disneyland. .
