Helen Gahagan

Illeana Douglas is her grand-daughter. Her most recent well-known role is that of the one-eyed assassin Elle Driver in Kill Bill: Volume I and Kill Bill: Volume II. In 1950 she ran for the United States Senate, but was defeated by Richard Nixon in a race considered by her supporters to be a prototypical smear campaign. Her other memorable roles include the Replicant Pris in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, the mermaid Madison in Ron Howard's fantasy Splash, the title role in Fred Schepisi's movie Roxanne (a modern retelling of Edmond Rostand's play Cyrano de Bergerac), and the giantess Nancy in Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, for which she was also co-producer. In the 1940s she enterered politics, and was elected to the United States House of Representatives from California for two terms. She made her film debut in 1978, in Brian De Palma's horror movie The Fury. Gahagan starred in one Hollywood movie, She, in 1935, playing The Ice Goddess ("She who must be obeyed"). She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended the University of Southern California.

She became a well known star on Broadway in the 1920s. In 1931 she married actor Melvyn Douglas. Daryl Christine Hannah (born December 3, 1960) is a popular American actress. Gahagan was born in Boonton, New Jersey.
