In the 1940s she enterered politics, and was elected to the United States House of Representatives from California for two terms. In 1950 she ran for the United States Senate, but was defeated by Richard Nixon in a race considered by her supporters to be a prototypical smear campaign. Illeana Douglas is her grand-daughter. Illeana Douglas is her grand-daughter. Her most recent well-known role is that of the one-eyed assassin Elle Driver in Kill Bill: Volume I and Kill Bill: Volume II. In 1950 she ran for the United States Senate, but was defeated by Richard Nixon in a race considered by her supporters to be a prototypical smear campaign. Her other memorable roles include the Replicant Pris in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, the mermaid Madison in Ron Howard's fantasy Splash, the title role in Fred Schepisi's movie Roxanne (a modern retelling of Edmond Rostand's play Cyrano de Bergerac), and the giantess Nancy in Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, for which she was also co-producer.
