Despite these successes, he received little public attention in the next ten years, reappearing in the spotlight in 1984 as the star of the musical, Chess. At around the same time he won a leading role in the Oscar-winning Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971), alongside Peter Finch and Glenda Jackson. He was replaced with Dusty, who left the band before the recording of their second album, The Young & the Hopeless. As a result, Josh Freese plays on that album. He had limited success until selected by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber to play Judas Iscariot on the original album version of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Escolopio left the band in early 2001 to join the band Wakefield with his brother. Head began acting and writing songs as a child, and by the mid-1960s had a London recording contract. They soon moved to Annapolis and met Billy Martin through a mutual interest in the band Silverchair. His younger brother is "Buffy" star, Anthony Stewart Head. They started the band in 1996 when they recruited childhood friends Paul Thomas (bass) and Aaron Escolopio (drums). He was born in London, his parents being Seafield Head, a documentary-maker, and Helen Shingler, an actress. Frontmen Joel and Benji Madden grew up in the town of Waldorf, Maryland. Murray Head (born March 5, 1946) is a British actor and singer.

The band is fronted by identical twin brothers Benji and Joel Madden, born in Washington, DC. They have had many singles, some of their more popular songs being "The Anthem," "Girls and Boys," and "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous." They took their band name from a children's book, written by Carol Beach York. Good Charlotte is a pop punk band, formed in 1996. The Chronicles of Life and Death (Epic Records) (2004).
