She has now largely retired from acting, and concentrates on photography and business ventures. McGuire has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6933 Hollywood Blvd. Her beauty brought her to the attention of Hollywood, making her first "American" film in 1954, following which she was cast in a series of light romantic comedies considered minor by some. She appeared in such other movies as Three Coins in the Fountain, Friendly Persuasion, Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson, Summer Magic and The Greatest Story Ever Told. (They had one son, and were divorced in 1971). She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1947 for Gentleman's Agreement. In 1949 she married a Yugoslavian physician, Milko Skofic. By 1943, at the age of 27, she was already playing mother roles, in such movies as A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

She began appearing in Italian language films. Her first film was Claudia, in which she played the character she had originated on Broadway, that of a child bride who almost destroys her marriage through her selfishness. She was born Luigina Lollobrigida at Subiaco near Rome, and became a fashion model and beauty contestant. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she began her career on the stage. Gina Lollobridiga (born 4 July 1927) is an Italian actress. Dorothy Hackett McGuire (June 14, 1916 - September 13, 2001) was an American actress.
