Fanny Ardant

Ardant has appeared in more than fifty motion pictures. Since its inception, the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti has been awarded to many of the greatest names in French cinema who went on to national and international stardom such as Micheline Presle, Simone Signoret, Annie Girardot, Geneviève Bujold, Audrey Tautou and Isabelle Adjani. She proved her versatility, playing a comedic role in Pédale douce for which she won the 1997 Cesar Award for Best Actress. It was given for the first time in 1937 to actress Junie Astor (1912-1967) for her performance in the film, "Club de femmes." The award comes in the form of a medallion engraved with Suzanne Bianchetti's image.

Initially, her youthful beauty brought popularity but over time her sophistication and acting skills have made her one of France's most admired actresses. When she died at the age of 47, the following year her husband created an award in her memory to be given annually to the most promising young actress. The film, directed by François Truffaut, brought Ardant her first Cesar Award nomination for best actress in 1982 and in 1984 she was nominated again for Vivement dimanche! Eventually she became Truffaut's companion, giving birth to their daughter, Joséphine, on September 28, 1983. She was married to writer/actor René Jeanne (1887-1969) who served as the director of L'Etablissement Cinématographique des Armées. By the early 1980s she was a major motion picture star, gaining international recognition for her role opposite Gérard Depardieu in La Femme d'à côté (The Woman Next Door). She worked with many of the early notables of the silent screen era such as Antonin Artaud and the singer, Damia. In her early twenties her interest turned to acting and in 1974 she made her first appearance on stage. Suzanne Bianchetti appeared in her first film in the early 1900s and quickly became one of France's most loved and respected actresses.
