BMW E36

The success of the E36 in addition to the "quality" and "fun to drive" aspects of the platform gave BMW a strong market identity and presence for many. It wasn't long before the "young" Fendissime line was born, followed by perfume and other licenses. Against other competititors, the E36 would repeatedly beat out the competition and won many awards from major car magazines. When the sisters couldn't find the fabric clothes they wanted to show under the furs their ready-to-wear line was born, again to great success. Sales for 3 Series coupes, sedans, and convertibles were at all time highs in North America and Europe. In 1969 Fendi presented its first ready-to-wear fur collection at Palazzo Pitti in Florence, bringing continuously evolving techniques and imaginative designs to lower-priced furs without sacrificing quality. Among most BMW enthusiasts, the E36 platform was among the most popular of BMW design of the past 20 years. Other outlets soon followed, and today Fendi has a large store on New York's Fifth Avenue, as well as numerous Fendi boutiques around the world.

A modified version of the E36 platform (sometimes called the E36/7) was used for the BMW Z3 roadster. Marvin Traub, president of Bloomingdale's, discovered Fendi's leather goods and introduced them to the United States. Ostensibly due to slow US sales of the E36/5 Compact, the E46 Compact was not sold in the United States. It was an immediate success with foreign buyers. BMW made an entry level version of the E36 called the 3 Series Compact, a three-door hatchback. What had once been a precious but stiff and heavy garment was transformed into a light, soft, easy-to-wear and above all flattering outfit. Each model is followed by its particular engine. Lagerfeld immediately created the inverted FF logo that joined the growing list of international status symbols, and then set about, aided and abetted by the sisters, to revolutionize the treatment of fur and other clothing. . In 1965 a marriage between the Fendis and German designer Karl Lagerfeld was sealed, and it proved to be fortuitous for both. E36 is considered the performance benchmark in its class. By 1946 Paola, 15, the eldest of the couple's five daughters, went to work for the firm, followed by her sisters Carla, Anna, Franca, and Alda.

It laid strong foundation to the success BMW E46 experienced in subsequent years. The business prospered, and a new shop was opened in Via Piave in 1932. E36 experienced enormous success in the market. When Adele married Edoardo Fendi in 1925, they made a decision to change the name to Fendi. The M3 was produced as an E36 from 1995-1999 in the US, and 1993-1999 in the European market. Fendi began in 1918 when Adele Casagrande opened a leather and fur shop in Via del Plebiscito in central Rome. It is the sucessor of the BMW E30 in 1992 but was officially replaced by the BMW E46 in 1999. group, it's creative director is Karl Lagerfeld.
