Desmond Llewelyn

Llewelyn was killed in a road accident on December 19, 1999 after returning home from a booksigning promoting his autobiography in East Sussex. In 1997, he played Billy Prior in the film adaptation of Pat Barker's World War I novel, Regeneration. Contrary to his gadget-expert character in the Bond films, Llewelyn always maintained that he was totally lost in the world of technology. The accent he used in the film was so convincing that it led to many people believing he was a Scottish actor.

He acted on stage and appeared in an English television series called Follyfoot. Shortly afterwards, Miller took a leading role in Trainspotting (1996), which brought him real notoriety. Llewelyn appeared in other films such as the 1981 PBS production of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde. They divorced four years later. After a stint in Eastenders, Jonny Lee Miller got his big break in films with Hackers (1995), co-starring Angelina Jolie, whom he married the following year. In 1940, he was captured by the German army in France, and was held as a POW for five years. He was born at Kingston-upon-Thames. The outbreak of World War II in September 1939 halted his acting career, and Llewelyn was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the British army, serving with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was the first husband of actress Angelina Jolie. In high school, he worked as a stagehand in the school's productions and then picked up sporadic small parts.
